Telford, Shropshire
£45,000
Monday to Friday, 10 hour shifts Machines don’t fix themselves. Which is unfortunate, because if they did, this job wouldn’t exist.
We’re looking for a Farm Engineer to keep a busy agricultural operation moving. You’ll be maintaining, repairing and generally rescuing a wide range of machinery that has a habit of breaking at exactly the wrong time. This is not a “watch the clock and tick boxes” role. It’s a “something’s down, go sort it” kind of job.
You’ll be working across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, diagnosing faults properly and fixing them so they stay fixed. Welding and fabrication will come into play too, along with general hands-on problem solving across site. There’s also telescopic JCB work involved, because nothing in farming ever stays in its lane. What you’ll be doing Keeping agricultural machinery running reliably and safely
Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults
MIG and TIG welding and fabrication work
Supporting safe use of oxy-fuel equipment and abrasive wheels
Operating telescopic JCB equipment when needed
Deciding what needs doing first, and getting on with it
Making sure everything you touch meets health and safety standards
What you’ll need Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent experience
Solid background in agricultural or heavy machinery maintenance
Strong fault-finding skills, not guesswork and hope
Confident working with hydraulics and pneumatics
Welding experience (MIG and TIG)
Experience or tickets for telescopic JCB operation
Familiarity with oxy-fuel systems and abrasive wheels
A practical understanding of health and safety
Ability to work independently without being micro-managed
Basic MS Office skills for logging and reporting
Clear communication and a methodical approach
The reality of it If you like variety, hands-on work and solving problems properly, you’ll be fine here. If you want predictable, repetitive tasks and someone telling you exactly what to do every hour, you won’t.
This role suits someone who sees a broken machine and doesn’t panic, they just start figuring it out
Multi-Skilled Engineer (Food Manufacturing) Attleborough, Norfolk
£48,000 Double Days Shift Pattern This is a family-owned food manufacturing business with a small, close-knit engineering team and none of the usual corporate noise. The engineering function is led by a strong Engineering Manager who knows what good looks like and gives people the space to get on with the job properly. They’re not chasing a perfect CV. They’re looking for a good engineer from a food or similar production background who wants to get stuck in and be part of a team that actually works together. What you’ll be doing Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across production equipment
Responding to breakdowns and getting lines back up and running quickly
Diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical faults
Supporting continuous production and reducing downtime
Working closely with production to resolve issues properly
Completing maintenance records and supporting site systems
Contributing to general improvement and reliability activity What we’re looking for Multi-skilled engineering background
Experience in food manufacturing or similar production environment
Confident fault-finding across electrical and mechanical systems
Experience with PPM and reactive maintenance
Positive attitude and willingness to get involved
Comfortable working within a small team where everyone pulls their weight
Strong awareness of health and safety The reality of the role This is not a layered, process-heavy environment. It’s a smaller site where people know each other, decisions happen quickly, and engineers are trusted to do their job without being buried in unnecessary systems. If you want structure, autonomy and a team that actually functions without politics, it’s a good place to be. If you need corporate layers and endless sign-off processes, you’ll find it a bit too straightforward
£46,000 - £54,000 (starting up to £50,000 depending on experience, qualifications and behaviours)
4 on 4 off (2 days, 2 nights) We’re looking for a Shift Engineer to support a fast-paced production environment, keeping equipment running, diagnosing faults quickly, and making sure downtime stays where it belongs, which is not on your shift. You’ll be part of a hands-on engineering team responsible for reactive and planned maintenance across a busy site where things move quickly and break occasionally at inconvenient times. What you’ll be doing Responding to breakdowns and restoring equipment safely and efficiently
Carrying out planned preventative maintenance tasks
Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults
Supporting continuous production by reducing downtime and repeat failures
Working safely and effectively across rotating day and night shifts
Recording maintenance activity and supporting CMMS systems
Contributing to improvement activity and reliability initiatives
Working closely with production to resolve issues at root cause level
What we’re looking for Engineering qualification (Level 3 or equivalent experience)
Strong background in maintenance within manufacturing or FMCG environments
Confident fault-finding across mechanical and electrical systems
Good understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics and industrial equipment
Experience with planned maintenance systems and reactive breakdown work
Ability to work independently during night shifts without things going sideways
Strong awareness of health and safety standards
Clear communication and practical, methodical approach
The reality of the role
This is a shift role in the proper sense of the word. You will not be gently eased into problems at a convenient time. You’ll need to be comfortable switching between nights and days, reacting quickly when things fail, and keeping your head straight when the line decides it has other plans. If you want predictable hours and calm evenings, this is not that job. If you want variety, responsibility and the kind of engineering work where you actually get your hands dirty solving problems, it fits
Field Service Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical / Horticulture Systems)
£50,000+
Based in Hull
UK travel required
Company van and fuel card provided This is a field-based engineering role supporting horticultural and controlled environment systems across the UK.
The focus is on maintaining and improving automated growing environments where environmental control systems, electrical infrastructure and mechanical equipment all work together to keep production stable and consistent.
Candidates from food manufacturing are welcome, particularly where they have strong electrical and multi-skilled maintenance experience, but the core environment here is horticulture and controlled systems rather than food production. What you’ll be doing Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across UK sites
Responding to reactive breakdowns and system faults
Diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical issues across controlled environment systems
Supporting horticultural and automated growing operations
Working independently on customer sites, often with minimal supervision
Completing accurate service reports and maintenance documentation
Managing your own workload across multiple UK locations
Occasional overnight stays depending on travel requirements
What we’re looking for Strong multi-skilled engineering background, ideally with an electrical bias
Experience in horticulture, agriculture, controlled environment systems, or similar automation-heavy settings
Food manufacturing engineers will be considered where strong electrical and maintenance experience is present
Confident fault-finding across electrical and mechanical systems
Experience with PPM and reactive maintenance in live operational environments
Comfortable working across varied environments, including plant rooms and production facilities
Willingness to travel extensively across the UK and stay away when required
Self-sufficient, organised and capable of working independently
Strong communication skills when working with site teams and operators
Full UK driving licence
The reality of the role This is not a single-site maintenance job. You’ll be moving between different controlled environments where reliability is critical and systems are often operating continuously. The work is varied, technically interesting and requires engineers who are comfortable thinking on their feet without constant supervision. If you want routine, fixed-site work, this won’t suit you. If you want autonomy, variety and exposure to modern controlled environment engineering
Multi-Skilled / Electrical Engineer (Food Manufacturing)
£47,508
5 on / 5 off (split days and nights) This is a continuously open engineering requirement within a busy food manufacturing environment, where there is ongoing demand for both multi-skilled and electrically biased engineers. Engineers are expected to respond quickly to issues, stabilise equipment and maintain production continuity. It suits individuals who are comfortable working in a fast-moving shift-based environment where priorities can change quickly. If you prefer slow-paced or predictable maintenance work, this is unlikely to be a fit. If you want a role where your skills are genuinely needed and used every shift, it is
