The Role

The role of Electrical Design Engineer will involve operating as a sole contributor for electrical design, working closely with mechanical, controls, and commissioning to develop bespoke machinery. Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:

Abercorn Sinclair is delighted to partner with Stanelco RF Technologies as they seek to appoint an experienced Lead Electrical Design Engineer.

The Company

Based in Marchwood, Southampton, Stanelco RF Technologies (Stanelco) is a division of Biome Technologies plc.

Stanelcos small, multidisciplinary team specialises in the design and manufacture of bespoke engineering solutions for a wide range of industries utilising induction heating and dielectric welding systems.

With a strong focus on high-frequency RF technologies, projects typically range from £50k to £500k+ and include RF heating systems, electrical and electronic control systems, and integrated mechanical handling solutionsfor the Medical, Industrial and Nuclear sectors. Delivery timelines vary from 3 to 12 months, covering the full process from project acquisition through to commissioning and compliance.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the successful candidate will operate as a key member of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, delivering technically robust, safe, and compliant solutions to Stanelcos global customer base.

You will act as the technical authority for electrical and electronic aspects of projects, working with cross-functional teams to define architectures, requirements, and specifications.

The role includes periodic UK and international travel to commission new systems and support existing installations.

Candidate Profile

Given the size and nature of the business, this role offers some flexibility and can be tailored to the skills and experience of the successful candidate. We welcome applications from experienced Engineer /Senior Engineer/ Lead Engineers who can provide authoritative leadership across electrical and electronic design, safety, and compliance.

Ideally, you will be educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, with several years demonstrable experience in the development of industrial or process-based equipment. You will be a natural problem-solver, comfortable operating in a hands-on, project-driven engineering environment.

Key Design Responsibilities

  • Play an instrumental role in the design, development, manufacture, and support of industrial RF and electro-mechanical process equipment.
  • Lead electrical team technical activities and ensure rigorous delivery to project requirements.
  • Lead electrical and electronic design activities through concept, development, verification, and release.
  • Drive innovation by troubleshooting existing products, optimising designs, and evaluating new technologies for future product development.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Stanelcos electro-mechanical product range to support technical discussions with customers and stakeholders.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Electrical and electronic systems engineering, including power conversion, transformers, switches, converters, SMPS.
  • Electrical and electronic system architecture and requirements definition.
  • Industrial automation, electronic control systems, and industrial software.
  • Understanding of thermal management systems and materials considerations in industrial equipment.

Additional Skills & Experience (Advantageous)

  • Control panel design (PLC, HMI, SCADA).
  • Experience with RF, power electronics, induction heating, or dielectric welding.
  • Experience acting as a technical authority and developing junior engineers.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.

Compliance, Safety & Standards

  • Own or contribute significantly to CE marking activities related to electrical and electronic design.
  • Interpret and apply relevant standards (e.g. Low Voltage Directive, EMC, harmonised standards) - safety, design review & technical documentation.

Project & Commercial Support

  • Support new business proposals at quotation and negotiation stages, providing technical input and risk assessment.
  • Work closely with the Head of Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Team to ensure alignment and integrated product delivery.
  • Oversee UK and global commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting activities for new and existing equipment.
