The opportunity:
As a Systems Design Engineer you’ll support product development of C2 systems for a range of domestic and export customers in maritime and land application air defence. Our projects include upgrading the functionality and performance of existing in-service systems that will provide our customer with capabilities for years to come, as well as for new customers, where C2 integration with their platforms and wider battlespace is key to delivering their programmes.
Working in C2 in MBDA provides an excellent opportunity to interact with all areas of the company and to see the full product development life-cycle. Our systems are fundamental to the user experience and deliver real capability to the customers.
Command and Control is at the heart of the weapon system, The C2 system provides the weapon system operator with the means to understand the complex battlespace, manage the weapon system and perform engagements. The C2 software identifies what threats exist, and in response to the Operator’s request for engagements, creates an optimal engagement solution, taking into consideration a number complex and ever-changing constraints. The C2 then initiates the missile firings, and supports the engagement through to its conclusion by maintaining communication with the missile in flight. C2 delivers processing units, consoles with user interfaces, safety control equipment and supporting tools for system maintenance, logging, data analysis and training.
Day to day you’ll be supporting the functional design of the C2 software, working closely with the system architect and software architect. You will be involved in analysing C2 requirements and interfaces, proposing design changes, understanding the behaviour and performance of complex algorithms, generating requirements for software and hardware as well as investigating customer queries.

Contract Software Engineer (DV Cleared) 6 Months (Initially) Romsey OR Gloucester for On-site Work €(Apply online only) per day (Inside IR35) iO Associates is proudly partnering an R&D client, specialising in developing cutting-edge technology for our National Security. We are looking for a Software Engineer who holds a current DV clearance to join the team on an Initial 6 month basis (with a high likelihood of extension). The role itself will involve designing, developing and optimising OpenCPI components and application for SIGINT and RF Systems. Along with the additional tasks below: Integrate OpenCPI solutions onto FPGA-based and embedded SDR platforms. Support system architecture, trade studies, and technical design decisions. Ensure robust, scalable and reusable OpenCPI-based implementations.Key Responsibilities Involve: Engineering & Development Develop OpenCPI workers and containers in C/C++ and HDL (VHDL/Verilog where required). Integrate DSP chains into FPGA and embedded Linux environments. Conduct trade-off analysis across performance, latency and resource utilisation. Support hardware/software integration in secure lab and customer environments.Knowledge, Skills & Experience: Demonstrable hands-on experience with OpenCPI framework. Strong C/C++ development in embedded or Linux environments. Understanding of digital signal processing (DSP) principles. Experience integrating FPGA-based platforms (e.g. Xilinx or Intel toolchains). Experience working within secure National Security or MOD environments. Ability to troubleshoot complex integration and performance issues.
