Our client is a large public sector body with an expansive portfolio of property and estate across Northern Ireland.

This body has a dedicated estates department that maintains this portfolio. The team is made up of Maintenance Managers from a range of technical backgrounds, including Architecture, Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management and M&E Building Services, as well as direct labour staff.

This estate includes over 1100 buildings for which the Estates Department is responsible for ensuring a safe, comfortable environment for the stakeholders and users of these buildings. It is the responsibility of the Estates Department to deliver a planned preventative and response maintenance works programme annually that satisfies a robust financial and performance reporting regime. The Estates Department also delivers an annual minor maintenance capital budget across its estate of properties.

Your new role
This post is a long-term temporary contract for a period of 9-12 months, potentially longer.

Based from our client’s office in Derry/Londonderry and working across the wider North West area, you will work as part of a larger estates team who report to the Senior Area Manager and have responsibility for Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Maintenance and Minor works projects across a specific geographical area.

This role will involve:

Issuing, and being accountable for, works orders to contractors for maintenance works and tendered projects.

Providing estimates and monitoring expenditure on programmes of work.

Carry out regular visits to properties in relation to day-to-day response maintenance problems and planned maintenance programmes.

Prepare and supervise planned maintenance programmes, minor work projects, projection of costs, drafting of specifications and working drawings.

Submit regular buildings, plant and equipment condition reports.

What you’ll need to succeed
To be eligible for this position, you must be able to meet the following criteria:
Hold a Degree in Project Management or a Mechanical and/or Electrical related discipline and have three years’ demonstrable experience in a Mechanical and/or Electrical-related Project Management role;

OR

Hold an HND/HNC or equivalent Mechanical and/or Electrical studies discipline with three years’ demonstrable experience in a Mechanical and/or Electrical-related Project Management role;

OR

Have five years’ demonstrable experience working in a Mechanical and Electrical-related project management role.

In addition to the required qualifications / experience, you must be able to demonstrate experience of:

Your new role

Responsibilities and duties of the Civil Engineer role

Reporting to the Senior Civils Engineer, you will:

  • Deliver civil and structural designs for utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage projects from early design through to construction
  • Assess site conditions and determine appropriate solutions for foundations, piling, earthworks, drainage, and access infrastructure
  • Review and interpret technical specifications, employer’s requirements, and engineering drawings
  • Evaluate site surveys and third-party reports, including geotechnical, flood risk, topographical, and hydrological studies
  • Define scopes of work and technical requirements for civil subcontractors and external consultants
  • Ensure all civil works comply with relevant standards, CDM regulations, and internal QHSE policies
  • Coordinate civil design inputs with internal engineering disciplines and project teams
  • Provide technical support during the construction phase, resolving design and site-related issues
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for civil engineering matters with external partners and consultants
  • Review and approve civil and structural designs and engineering reports produced by third parties

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with:

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s desirable)
  • Experience in renewables, utilities, infrastructure, or a similar engineering environment
  • Good knowledge of UK and international engineering standards
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Tekla Tedds and Tekla Structural Designer advantageous
  • Experience in civil and foundation design, including piling and earthworks
  • Ability to interpret geotechnical, topographical, hydrological, and flood risk reports
  • Knowledge of drainage design and surface water management (SuDS desirable)

What will make you successful

Youll thrive in this role if you hold a Level 3 NVQ or a recognised engineering qualification mech, elec or multi skilled, supported by hands-on experience in both reactive and planned preventative maintenance within a regulated environment. Previous experience in similar site services settings will help you hit the ground running and understand the pace and demands of the role, Boas operator and legionella operator training would be advantages but is not essential as this training can be provided.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for security incidents, leading or coordinating response activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proven experience in an information security role within a UK-based organisation, ideally supporting public sector or critical services.
  • Practical experience with security monitoring and incident response tooling (SIEM/XDR)
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO/IEC 27001 and experience maintaining an ISMS.
  • Practical experience with Cyber Essentials / Cyber Essentials Plus certification.
  • Experience managing security risks, incidents, audits, and compliance activities in operational environments.
  • Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on delivery in a small organisation.
  • Strong understanding of service resilience, availability, and risk in mission-critical systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The Role:

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will lead complex analytical engineering activities across the full product lifecycle from concept and development through to production and verification. You will be responsible for maintaining system requirements, conducting in-depth analyses, supporting system verification, and producing highly technical documentation required for internal, customer, and contractual purposes.

You will also play a key role in mentoring Systems Engineers, helping maximise team capability, quality, and productivity while supporting continuous professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct system requirements analysis and generate specifications

We are seeking an experienced Head of Engineering to lead and take full ownership of engineering delivery, team performance, and operational excellence across our client s software development organisation.

Reporting to the CTO, this is a high-impact leadership role that sits at the intersection of technical credibility and engineering management. You will be responsible for building a high-performing engineering function, establishing clear accountability, and ensuring the organisation delivers software in a structured, predictable, and scalable way.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and take accountability for the performance of the engineering function, fostering a high-performing, professional, and delivery-focused culture.
  • Set clear expectations around ownership, accountability, and engineering standards across all teams
  • Coach, mentor, and develop engineers, raising the overall capability and consistency of the function including performance management, addressing underperformance where required and recognising strong contribution
  • Own the delivery of the engineering roadmap, ensuring work is delivered predictably, on time, and to a high standard including overseeing sprint planning, backlog management, and development workflows to ensure consistent execution
  • Monitor delivery performance (velocity, cycle time, bottlenecks) and take action to improve outcomes
  • Define and implement consistent engineering processes across teams, including:
    • Agile delivery (Scrum / Kanban)
    • Code review practices

    • CI/CD workflows
  • Set and enforce clear standards for code quality, documentation, and maintainability
  • Although this role is not hands-on coding, strong technical credibility is essential. So, an earlier career as a software engineer, with experience building modern web applications (Node.js, TypeScript, Vue.js or similar).
  • Comfortable engaging on technical design, reviewing architecture, and supporting complex challenges across AWS, Docker, and event-driven or serverless systems.
  • The Head of Engineering directly leads two Development squads and one QA squad, with accountability for delivery, quality, and performance across the engineering function.
  • Work closely with the CTO to align engineering execution with technical strategy and partner with Product to ensure roadmap priorities are delivered effectively
  • Coordinate with DevOps and Support to ensure smooth deployment, platform reliability, and strong operational feedback loops
