The Opportunity
We are working with the same ambitious, family-run contractor operating across London’s commercial fit-out and refurbishment market. They have built a strong reputation for quality delivery, repeat business and looking after their people.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, they are now looking to recruit an Assistant Site or Project Manager. This is a development hire, not a stop gap.

The intention is clear: invest in the right person and grow them into a fully-fledged Site Manager or Project Manager over time.

The Role of Assistant Site/Project Manager:

You will be shadowing and supporting the Contracts Manager across multiple live projects in Central London. This is not a desk based role. It is active, hands on and varied. You will be out on site, learning how jobs are run properly from tender stage through to completion and final account.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the delivery of CAT A and CAT A+ commercial fit out and refurbishment projects
• Assisting with site coordination, subcontractor management and quality control
• Helping monitor programme and ensuring works are progressing as planned
• Supporting health and safety compliance across sites
• Assisting with procurement and basic commercial tracking
• Attending client and site meetings to build confidence and exposure
• Learning how to manage projects from start to finish under close mentorship
  This is a role for someone who wants to graft, learn quickly and take on more responsibility as they prove themselves.

Principal Accountabilities

As Field Engineer - Electrical, you will:

• Carry out construction surveillance across designated electrical works
• Act in alignment with NEC Supervisor principles
• Ensure works are installed in accordance with contract, design and approved Quality Control Plans
• Identify and escalate non-conformances
• Ensure inspection records are completed prior to works being covered
• Proactively identify quality risks before they become programme issues
• Work closely with Construction Superintendents and wider site teams
• Maintain accurate site diaries and surveillance records

This is not a design role.

This is not a desk-based QA role.

This is hands-on, in-field assurance within a highly regulated environment.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

• 18th Edition (BS7671)
• C&G 2391 Inspection & Test
• CSCS or SMSTS
• HND (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering (or relevant vocational experience)
• Experience within large construction teams
• Strong understanding of industrial electrical installation
• Proven experience producing accurate site diaries under NEC or similar contracts
• Strong attention to detail and ability to challenge diplomatically

The Mechanical Site Project Manager is responsible for leading the on-site delivery of district heating and energy centre construction projects, ensuring mechanical works are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the required technical standards. This role oversees subcontractors, coordinates multidisciplinary site activities, manages project resources, and acts as the primary on-site point of contact for clients, consultants, and internal project teams.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Delivery

• Lead the on-site delivery of mechanical systems for district heating networks, energy centres, plantrooms, and associated infrastructure.
• Manage day-to-day site operations, sequencing, logistics, and work fronts to maintain progress against programme.
• Ensure installation aligns with design specifications, project drawings, technical standards, and client requirements.

Site Coordination & Leadership

Experience & Qualifications

Essential

• Proven experience delivering mechanical construction works on district heating, energy centres, plantrooms, or large-scale MEP projects.
• Strong understanding of mechanical plant, LTHW systems, CHP/boilers/heat pumps, pipework, pumps, and distribution networks.
• Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multi-disciplinary site activities.
• Excellent knowledge of health & safety, CDM, and quality standards.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

• Mechanical engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent).
• SMSTS, CSCS Manager’s Card, First Aid.
