THE ROLE : This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer to join our client on a long term freelance basis. They offer the opportunity to work as part of a multi disciplinary team on a wide range of new build and refurbishment projects. Typically these projects will be valued between £40k to £400k. The working hours are 37 hours per week. Hybrid working is available 2 / 3 days in the office.

YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING :

  • Previous experience working as a Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer including the Design of schemes using AutoCAD
  • Well developed technical understanding of standards and codes of practice
  • The ability to produce building services specifications on construction projects
  • Established IT skills with Microsoft Project programmes
  • Full driving licence

Role Overview:

The purpose of the program is to oversee and coordinate industry activity around the move from legacy telephone networks - principally the retirement of the Public Switched Telephone Network and move to digital (IP-based) lines but also looking ahead to 2G switch off and copper retirement. The role will serve as a single point of contact for industry, stakeholders and Ofcom and the UK Government. This high-profile role would see you at the heart of a strategic digital upgrade programme, responsible for representing industry plans and progress to stakeholders, actively engaging with the CNI and business sectors to raise awareness and troubleshoot potential issues and supporting the telecoms industry outreach into the special services sector and third party dependencies.

The position requires the ability to work with a large and diverse selection of external stakeholders. The ONSS Civil Project Manager has direct responsibility for risk mitigation and delivery of the Civil packages within the portfolio of works. This will include where required the Principal Contractor responsibility under CDM. The Civil Project Manager will lead high performing team to deliver complex infrastructure projects with many interfaces and integration points, coordinating specific engineering outputs within construction plans to deliver fit for purpose solutions safely to time, quality and investment criteria.

The ONSS Civil Project Manager will ensure through their team that all works are carried out in a Safe, high Quality and environmentally compliant manner, complying with all legal requirements and leading HSQE performance. Directly responsible for site safety through development, creation and implementation of project specific safety plans and organisational arrangements.

Role: BMS Engineer - Design

Location: London - Hybrid working

Duration: 12 month initial contract

The BMS design engineer should fully understand the engineering requirements of building control systems for a range of building types, varying in complexity. Candidates will need a thorough understanding of both mechanical and electrical building systems and be able to work autonomously. The role will require experience of interpreting customer specifications to develop comprehensive designs and scope packages for individual disciplines including panel design, hardware configuration, field equipment, software configuration, graphic packages as well as installation and commissioning scope. Candidates must also be prepared to work flexibly as part of the team and be pro-active with modern technologies and best practice.

Applicants should have engineering skills as detailed below:

  • Electrical and Mechanical systems and plant knowledge,
  • BMS system design - Development of the full design from initial scope to handover documentation,
  • Author BMS control system strategy documents,
  • BMS hardware and software architecture development and best practice,
  • Preferably have knowledge of leading manufactures equipment/systems i.e. Siemens, Honeywell, Trend etc.

Competence

  • Minimum HNC qualification in relevant discipline,
  • Must be prepared to undergo security screening for specific projects,
  • Significant industry experience in control and automation of building systems
  • Comfortable in both an office and construction site environment,
  • Competent in site surveys, working around live plant and equipment,
  • A detailed understanding of specialist building systems including BMS, Electrical, Mechanical, fire safety and the BMS aspects of building networks.
  • Experienced in BMS/control system design, software configuration, graphic generation, control panel design,
  • Knowledge of PLC’s, stand-alone controllers, and energy/power control systems,

You will work as part of small project teams developing concept and early project definition in the Oil and Gas sector.

The role:

  • Act as a flow assurance engineer on a range of upstream projects, and conduct Flow Assurance studies using software packages, e.g., OLGA, PIPESIM etc.
  • Develop pipeline simulation models, perform simulations of selected cases as defined by self / project and assess simulation results.
  • Perform design calculations and prepare technical reports in accordance with company and project quality requirements.
  • Report to flow assurance SME.
  • Contribute to flow assurance strategies, philosophies and procedures.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Experience in single and multiphase pipelines (steady state and transient hydraulic) analyses using industry standard software, e.g., OLGA, PIPESIM, PIPENET etc. is essential.
  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in flow assurance modeling using OLGA transient simulation software.
  • Experience in assessing flow assurance issues like slugging, hydrates, wax, erosion, corrosion etc. by use of simulation software and providing the best mitigation solutions.
  • An ability to work in a collaborative way as part of a multi-discipline project group with minimum supervision.
  • Experience in pipeline sizing and thermo-hydraulics Studies, transient analysis covering shut down, blowdown, start-Up, ramp-up / turndown scenarios.
  • Experience in pipeline overpressure protection studies including surge pressure analysis.
  • Knowledge of flow assurance issues including slugging, hydrates, wax, erosion, corrosion etc. and mitigation methods.
  • Good understanding of thermodynamics and experience of Multiflash preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Excellent computer skills, as well as excellent oral/written presentation / report writing skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team.
  • Experience on flow assurance conceptual and front-end studies and topsides process engineering activities including process modeling in HYSYS would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute studies.
  • Ability and experience of presenting to clients.
  • Operational experience would be a benefit but not essential.
