JOB PURPOSE:

To be responsible for supporting engineering aspects of the procurement, safety management, and bringing into service of relevant ATC Systems. Typically, these will be minor / less complex systems and projects, focusing on simpler systems or specific equipment. May be required to undertake Engineering Authority roles in supporting relevant ATC Systems through the entire equipment life cycle.

This System Engineer position will be working in our Primary Surveillance Radar (PSR) and Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) team, so knowledge of these systems is desirable.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Project Delivery

  • Negotiate and coordinate project requirements and timelines with stakeholders.
  • Produce technical specifications for minor systems and support major system specifications.

  • Contribute to project planning in line with delivery milestones.

SCOPE OF JOB:

  • The post holder is required to contribute to delivery of multiple projects at any one time involving different project teams and locations. They may also be required to fulfil an EA role. The post holder is expected to resolve conflicting demands on their time and their direct reports, in consultation with their line management.
  • There is little requirement for strategic planning in this post. However, the post holder is likely to play a role in advising managers on issues which may affect strategy.
  • The post holder may be called on to advise and assist operational engineers to restore equipment into service. In support of this the post holder may be asked to attend airport sites at short notice.
  • Where required, and where agreed, the post holder will deliver structured training and / or carry out structured Competency Assessment Checks within their field of expertise and in accordance with NATS procedures.
  • The post holder will be required to undertake tasks within an operational environment therefore will need to demonstrate suitable behaviours.
  • The post holder may be required to provide out of hours on-call support for specific systems as designated by the Head of section.

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Professional engineering qualification to Higher National Certificate (Level 4 or SQF Level 7) as a minimum Electronics, Telecommunications or Computer Science or other relevant Engineering qualification discipline.

In lieu of the above qualifications the candidate will be required to demonstrate one of the following alternative criteria:

Relevant lower-level engineering qualifications such as an Apprenticeship coupled with demonstrable engineering experience in a relevant field (May include but not limited to: RAF, Navy, Rail, other Safety Critical environment).Evidence of substantial experience gained in a relevant transferable environment (such as ATSEP) gained over a significant period.

  • Experience of supporting systems and equipment similar to those used by ANSP’s such as RAF, Navy, Rail, other Safety Critical environment and experience in maintenance engineering on this type of equipment.
  • Shall demonstrate an understanding of safety critical systems and the impact they may have within our operational environment.

We require 1 Electrical (Vetronics) Engineer to join our team in Gateshead. The initial assignment will be for 6 months.

Lead and execute the full renewable heating design process from initial concept through to installation.

Produce, update, and maintain detailed heat pump and system designs in line with technical and regulatory standards.

Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery.

Ensure all designs comply with manufacturing specifications, MCS standards, technical requirements, and customer expectations.

Coordinate with installation teams and stakeholders to ensure accurate implementation of designs and system performance.

Dealing with project values from 50k - 500k

Stay up to date with industry standards, legislation, and new technologies.

The role:

Are you an experienced Hydraulic Design Engineer ready to take on complex engineering challenges and help shape innovative offshore and marine solutions? Were looking for a motivated engineer who can develop high-quality technical designs, support and guide colleagues, and occasionally lead small work-package teams. In this role, youll contribute to critical engineering activities, from producing detailed calculations to presenting design concepts, while ensuring safety, quality, and technical excellence at every stage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working under the guidance of the Senior Engineer, occasionally assuming technical disciplinary leadership on work package/ sub modules or design activities
  • Providing technical guidance and coaching to others
  • Ownership and Accountability
  • Accountability for quality, safety and fitness for purpose of design work undertaken
  • Ensure ownership of issues and resolution for all work undertaken by self and team
  • Producing hand calculations and detailed analysis as necessary to demonstrate fitness for purpose of all designs undertaken
  • Produce estimates, plans, reports and supportive calculations
  • Risk Management
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation plans and review with Senior Engineer

Requirements:

  • Familiarisation and efficient use of design tools (Autocad, Inventor, Hydroman, Hydrosym etc)
  • Be familiar with hydraulic Design Practices/Templates/Guidelines and Standards
  • Contribute to hydraulic design practices/guidelines and company standards
  • Produce of design templates
  • Be familiar and follow company Quality & HSE processes and protocols
  • Provide engineering support and technical guidance to other company functions as required
  • Engage in technical discussions with suppliers
  • Have proven experience as a Hydraulic Design Engineer, preferably in the marine/Offshore Engineering sector
  • Experience in the use of Teamcenter PLM would be advantageous
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Subsea technologies and/or cable lay equipment is desirable
  • As a minimum, educated to an Engineering Degree level ( B Eng, BSc or M Eng)
  • Member of recognised Engineering body (e.g. IMechE) or working towards this
