What You’ll Be Doing

• As a Senior Civil & Structural Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions across a range of nuclear, renewable, and energy infrastructure projects. You’ll contribute throughout the full project lifecycle - from feasibility and concept design through detailed engineering, construction support, and delivery.
• Working closely with Principal Engineers, Engineering Managers, and project teams, you’ll ensure that designs are safe, compliant, and cost-effective while meeting client requirements and industry standards.

Key responsibilities include

• Leading and supporting the development of civil and structural designs across multiple project stages
• Preparing and verifying design documentation, specifications, and calculations for safety-critical systems
• Producing safety-related deliverables such as Safety Functional Requirements (SFRs), Structural Design Method Statements (SDMSs), and Design Substantiation Reports (DSRs)
• Undertaking and reviewing finite element modelling and structural analysis using advanced engineering tools
• Developing Interpretive Reports, Basis of Design documents, CDM documentation, and technical reports
• Providing technical oversight, checking, and mentoring of junior engineers and design staff
• Ensuring designs comply with regulatory, safety, and quality standards, particularly within nuclear and high-hazard environments

About You

Essential skills and experience:

• Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline (BEng, MEng, BSc, MSc)

• Good understanding of nuclear plant systems, structures, and components (or transferable experience from similar environments)

About the Role

We are looking for Senior Site Investigation Engineer to be based in Leeds and join our national ground investigation team. This is an excellent opportunity for you to join Tetra Techs strong national geo-environmental resource. The national team provides ground investigation, geotechnical and geo-environmental consultancy services for a broad range of private and public sector clients.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be managing of geotechnical and geo-environmental ground investigations, largely in the north of England and with some sites across the UK. The role also includes managing site works including larger value sites across the UK.

Our experienced team members will offer mentoring and we will tailor your training and development accordingly to achieve your own personal goals, providing the specific support you need to reach your potential.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

• You will hold a degree in geology or similar.
• Experience of ground investigation, including logging of soil and rock to BS5930, supervision of site works, groundwater and ground gas monitoring.

We are seeking a full-time Principal Engineer with a strong technical background to support our structural engineering team delivering projects within the nuclear sector. This role is ideally suited to an engineer who has developed a solid technical foundation and is now looking to transition into a hybrid role combining technical leadership with emerging people and project responsibilities. The Principal Engineer will continue to play a hands-on role in engineering design and analysis, while progressively taking on greater responsibility for technical oversight, mentoring and coordination within project teams. The role offers a clear pathway towards increased leadership responsibility and progression towards Chartered Engineer status. Role Responsibilities Deliver high-quality engineering design and analysis for nuclear projects, from concept through to detailed design and implementation. Lead defined technical packages of work, taking responsibility for quality, coordination and timely delivery. Produce, check and review calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports in accordance with nuclear, industry and statutory standards. Support nuclear safety cases, substantiation and design justification activities where required. Provide technical guidance and oversight to junior engineers and technicians, supporting their development and day-to-day delivery. Work closely with project managers to support programme delivery and manage technical risks. Collaborate effectively with other disciplines, clients and stakeholders within a highly regulated environment. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, promoting best practice, lessons learned and technical excellence. Maintain high standards of health, safety, security and quality in all aspects of work Essential Skills Strong technical experience delivering engineering design within the nuclear industry or similarly regulated sectors. Demonstrated ability to take ownership of technical outputs and lead defined elements of project delivery. Clear understanding of nuclear safety, quality and regulatory requirements. Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical matters clearly and constructively. Willingness and capability to support and mentor less experienced engineers. Organised and reliable, with the ability to manage own workload and priorities effectively. Motivated to broaden responsibilities and develop leadership capability alongside technical expertise. Commitment to ongoing professional development, including progression towards Chartered status. Desirable Skills Experience contributing to nuclear safety cases, substantiation or design justification. Experience providing technical checking or informal supervision of others work. Awareness of programme, cost and quality drivers within regulated projects. Experience working directly with nuclear clients, licensees or duty holders. Relevant Qualifications Degree (or equivalent) in Civil, Structural or a related engineering discipline. Actively working towards Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional institution. Training or courses that we will provide / encourage Structured mentoring and support towards Chartered Engineer status. Technical training relevant to nuclear design, safety and regulatory expectations. Development opportunities to build leadership, coordination and technical assurance skills. Other The role will require the ability to obtain and maintain UK security clearance. A full UK driving licence may be required for site and client visits.
