I’m currently supporting a well-established, multi-disciplinary Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering consultancy with a strong footprint across UK infrastructure. With over 40 years of industry experience and a team of around 120 technical specialists, the business continues to grow through long-term client relationships, technical excellence and a collaborative culture.

As part of their continued expansion, they are looking to appoint a Senior Civil Engineer to join their Basingstoke office.

This is a key technical role within the team, offering the opportunity to take ownership of drainage and infrastructure schemes while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to project delivery from concept through to completion.

The Role

Reporting to the Discipline Lead, you will play a leading role in the design and coordination of infrastructure projects across residential, commercial, education, leisure, public sector and rail developments.
Responsibilities will include:

• Leading detailed design of drainage, highways and associated infrastructure works
• Producing and reviewing technical drawings, calculations and reports
• Preparing and overseeing flood risk assessments and drainage strategies
• Managing and coordinating project deliverables to meet programme and quality targets
• Undertaking site visits, inspections and surveys as required
• Liaising directly with clients, local authorities and key stakeholders
• Supporting and mentoring junior engineers and technicians
• Assisting with tenders, fee proposals and broader commercial activities

• Strong experience using Causeway Flow or MicroDrainage (Causeway Flow preferred)

The project consists of earth remediation, contaminated water, underground demolition, contaminated soil and treatment of mine workings.

We are seeking an engineer to join the established site team. We require the candidate to have held the position of site engineer for at least 5 years and hold a HND in civil engineering or similar.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Assist in the development and review of earthworks designs, including cut and fill balance, slope stability, and drainage considerations.

• Interpret design drawings, specifications, and ground investigation data to plan site operations.

• Contribute to the preparation and review of method statements, risk assessments, and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for earthworks activities.

• Oversee the execution of earthworks operations including excavation, filling, compaction and stabilisation.

• Ensure works are carried out in accordance with earthworks standards.

• Coordinate site testing in collaboration with compaction control tests.

• Review and record test results, identifying trends and ensuring compliance with project specifications.

• Maintain accurate daily records of works, inspections, and test data for quality assurance and audit purposes.

• Ensure earthworks operations comply with CDM Regulations, company safety procedures, and sitespecific health and safety plans.

• Promote a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainability within the site team.

• Identify and manage risks such as slope instability, soft ground, or contaminated materials.

• Support environmental controls including dust suppression, sediment control, and waste management.

• Ensure accurate setting out of earthworks features such as formation levels, embankments, and drainage interfaces.

• Check and verify survey data and asbuilt levels.

• Ensure compliance with tolerances and alignment requirements specified in the project drawings.

• Liaise daily with site management, design teams, and client representatives to coordinate works and resolve technical issues.

• Provide updates on progress, quality, and material performance during site meetings.

• Communicate clearly with suppliers and haulage contractors to ensure efficient material delivery and placement.

• Maintain accurate records of site activities, including material source approvals, test results, and inspection reports.

• Contribute to asbuilt records.

Requirements:

• HND in Civil Engineering Level 4 or above

• Valid CSCS card (qualified persons)

• SMSTS / SSSTS

• Awareness of hazardous materials such as Asbestos.

• Experience in remediation and earthworks projects.

• Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and construction methodologies.

• A strong knowledge of contamination within land, soil and water.

• Knowledge and experience of setting out equipment and GPS

• At least 5 years in similar role with a proven record of development (Trainee, Engineer)

• Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards

Strong understanding of software engineering lifecycles, including development, verification, validation, and integration.
Knowledge of aerospace software standards (e.g., DO-178C or similar) highly desirable.
Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams with a significant software engineering focus.
Excellent project management, technical governance, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Background in flight simulation, avionics, or complex aerospace software systems is highly advantageous.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior engineer who enjoys responsibility, variety and working on a wide range of machinery while supporting a busy fleet that is critical to major infrastructure and earthworks projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing and repairing a fleet of heavy plant equipment including ADT’s, dumpers, excavators and other large earthmoving machinery. You will play a key role within the engineering function, ensuring machines are maintained to a high standard, faults are diagnosed efficiently and downtime across the fleet is kept to an absolute minimum.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills, previous experience working on heavy plant equipment and be confident working independently while supporting the wider engineering team. Experience working on equipment such as Volvo, CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi or similar OEM machinery would be highly beneficial.
