What You’ll Be Doing

  • As a Senior Civil & Structural Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions across a range of nuclear, renewable, and energy infrastructure projects. You’ll contribute throughout the full project lifecycle - from feasibility and concept design through detailed engineering, construction support, and delivery.
  • Working closely with Principal Engineers, Engineering Managers, and project teams, you’ll ensure that designs are safe, compliant, and cost-effective while meeting client requirements and industry standards.

Key responsibilities include

  • Leading and supporting the development of civil and structural designs across multiple project stages
  • Preparing and verifying design documentation, specifications, and calculations for safety-critical systems
  • Producing safety-related deliverables such as Safety Functional Requirements (SFRs), Structural Design Method Statements (SDMSs), and Design Substantiation Reports (DSRs)
  • Undertaking and reviewing finite element modelling and structural analysis using advanced engineering tools
  • Developing Interpretive Reports, Basis of Design documents, CDM documentation, and technical reports
  • Providing technical oversight, checking, and mentoring of junior engineers and design staff
  • Ensuring designs comply with regulatory, safety, and quality standards, particularly within nuclear and high-hazard environments
  • Interfacing with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to address technical queries and progress project delivery
  • Supporting planning, estimation, and risk management activities across projects
  • Promoting innovation, digital tools, and continuous improvement in engineering processes

About You

We’re looking for someone who brings both strong technical expertise and excellent communication skills. You’ll be a proactive, solutions-focused engineer who enjoys working in multidisciplinary environments and mentoring others to achieve high performance.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline (BEng, MEng, BSc, MSc)
  • Chartered or near-Chartered Engineer status (we’ll support you to achieve full registration)
  • Solid background in civil and structural design within the nuclear, energy, or other highly regulated sectors
  • Good understanding of nuclear plant systems, structures, and components (or transferable experience from similar environments)
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, design tools, and standards such as ACI, ASCE, and AISC
  • Experience using finite element analysis software and performing design validation and verification
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation, CDM regulations, and best design practices
  • Familiarity with working in a BIM environment and digital engineering workflows
  • Strong organisational, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to technical accuracy

Desirable:

  • Experience with UK Nuclear Licensing and the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process
  • Familiarity with small or advanced modular reactor technologies
  • Experience leading small teams or acting as a checker for technical deliverables
