If you like *variety* and *different things* in your PLC Control Systems Engineering career, then this could be a good move for you. My client designs and builds clever and unique PLC HMI and Robotic systems, and every year brings a different set of applications, customers, machinery to design and problems to solve. And getting involved in each project gives you that variety, different work, different systems, different UK sites. You're an experienced PLC programmer (any PLC would be OK, but the usual Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron, Schneider, Mitsubishi PLC software would be ideal). You'll design the PLC software for each project from scratch, AND THEN follow the project right through to commissioning the machinery and automated systems on the customers site (UK only) and finishing with a working machine performing on site. Seeing what began on paper actually working is a great feeling! You're probably based in Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, but some engineers travel in from Hinckley, Coventry, and down the M1 from Nottingham. Salary: Yes, you'll get a good salary, and yes you'll get holiday, pension and benefits, but also something money can't buy: the chance to really engineer something interesting. If you need that in 2026, talk to me. For further information, please send a copy of your CV to Mark Burnard at Hartland Recruitment Hartland Recruitment- a technical recruitment agency specialising in finding Engineers for the UK Automation, Process Control Systems and Machinery Manufacturers since 1990. Field Service Engineer Automation International French Speaking Home Based - Permanent £5060k base salary + overseas uplift + overtime (£7580k OTE)

Samuel Frank is recruiting for a Field Service Engineer to support the commissioning, servicing and maintenance of automated systems across Europe and beyond.

This Field Service Engineer role requires good, practical French. You must be able to communicate technical detail in French on site. Holiday French will not be sufficient.

The successful Field Service Engineer will be a hands-on, versatile engineer with a blend of electrical, controls and mechanical skills rather than a pure controls specialist.

Key aspects of the Field Service Engineer role include

  • Electrical and PLC commissioning using Siemens S7-1500 PLCs and TIA Portal (v18 / v19)
  • PLC fault-finding on live systems (rather than full software development)
  • Planned service and maintenance visits to existing sites
  • Minor mechanical works including tracking belts, conveyor repairs, replacing brackets etc.
  • Some SCADA exposure and familiarity with SEW motors and drives would be beneficial
  • Working directly with customers, often in French-speaking environments
  • International travel to sites in France, Morocco, the Caribbean and Canada expected
  • Typical trips of 46 weeks, with rest weeks in between
  • Home-based when not on site

The client is open to Field Service Engineers with as little as 23 years experience if French language skills are strong. Training and development opportunities are available and the role is key to reducing reliance on subcontractors and supporting an existing French-speaking Engineer in the team.

The package on offer includes a £50-60k salary (up to £65k for stronger profiles), a 20% uplift on salary for overseas work after five consecutive working days away, plus overtime paid at x1.3 after 45 hours and x1.5 for 5160 hours. Total earnings of £75-80k + is realistic.

Candidates can live anywhere in the UK or mainland Europe. An EU passport would be beneficial but is not essential.
