Locations: Rutherford Labs (Didcot), Kettering Hospital, Cranfield University & Heartlands Hospital
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
I’m currently working with a well-established fire and life safety services provider who are looking to appoint an experienced Mobile Fire Alarm Engineer to support several key sites across the UK. This role will involve working across Rutherford Labs in Didcot, Kettering Hospital, Cranfield University and Heartlands Hospital, offering a varied and technically interesting position across multiple large-scale environments.
This is a permanent, multi-site position where you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, testing, fault finding and repair of fire alarm systems, ensuring they remain fully operational and compliant with industry standards including BS 5839 and HTM 05-03 where applicable. The role plays a key part in maintaining life safety systems across complex estates, helping ensure buildings remain safe, compliant and fully operational.
The position will involve carrying out planned preventative maintenance across the estates, as well as assisting with weekly fire alarm testing at the Rutherford site. You’ll also respond to reactive faults, diagnosing and resolving system issues quickly and efficiently to minimise disruption. Day-to-day responsibilities will include routine inspections, testing and system checks in line with statutory requirements, maintaining accurate compliance documentation and providing technical support to estates teams, contractors and other stakeholders on site.
Working across a range of environments, you’ll coordinate closely with site teams to ensure all work is carried out safely and efficiently within live operational buildings. You’ll also have the opportunity to support system upgrades, modifications and small works projects, contributing to the ongoing improvement and reliability of fire safety systems across the sites.
My client is ideally looking for a Fire Alarm Engineer with experience working on large or complex estates, such as hospitals, universities or large commercial buildings. Experience working with a range of fire alarm systems is important, particularly Advanced Electronics and Kentec panels, with Gent experience considered advantageous. However, training can be provided for the right candidate looking to broaden their technical skillset.
Candidates should have a strong understanding of BS 5839 standards, excellent diagnostic and fault-finding skills, and the ability to work independently across multiple sites. Industry qualifications such as FIA Level 3 in Fire Detection and Alarm Systems would be beneficial, although additional training and development opportunities are available. A full UK driving licence is required due to the mobile nature of the role.
Experience with systems such as Cooper or Gent would be advantageous, as would previous experience working within healthcare or other critical infrastructure environments where reliability and compliance are essential.
In return, the role offers a competitive salary package, company vehicle and fuel card, along with ongoing training, professional development and genuine career progression opportunities within a growing organisation. Engineers will also have access to overtime opportunities across the sites and wider contracts, allowing for additional earning potential.
If you’re an experienced Fire Alarm Engineer looking for a varied role across technically interesting sites with strong long-term development opportunities, I’d be very interested in speaking with you
