TECH-AGNOSTIC ROLE

Location: St George’s Hospital (Tooting) & Royal Marsden Hospital (Sutton) – London
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

I’m currently working with a leading fire and life safety services provider who are looking to appoint an experienced Site-Based Fire Alarm Engineer to support two major hospital estates in London. This is a permanent role split across St George’s Hospital in Tooting and the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, offering a unique opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working within a technically challenging and highly regulated environment.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, compliance and safety of fire detection systems across both hospital sites. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, testing, fault finding and repair of fire alarm systems, helping ensure they remain fully operational and compliant with relevant regulations including BS 5839 and HTM 05-03.

Working closely with the Estates and Facilities teams, you’ll operate within a live healthcare environment where attention to detail, communication and professionalism are essential. The role involves carrying out planned preventative maintenance across the hospital estates, assisting with weekly fire alarm testing at the Tooting site, and responding to reactive faults to minimise system downtime. You’ll also carry out routine inspections and system checks, maintain accurate compliance documentation and provide technical support to both internal teams and external contractors when required.

There will also be opportunities to support system upgrades, modifications and small works projects, giving engineers exposure to ongoing improvements within the hospital infrastructure.

My client is ideally looking for a qualified Fire Alarm Engineer with strong experience working on large or complex sites, such as hospitals, universities, or large commercial buildings. Gent system knowledge is essential, including the ability to service, program and maintain Gent fire alarm panels. A strong understanding of BS 5839 standards, along with excellent fault-finding ability and a proactive approach to maintenance, will be key to success in the role.

Industry qualifications such as FIA Level 3 in Fire Detection and Alarm Systems would be advantageous, although additional training can be provided for the right candidate. A full UK driving licence is also required.

Experience with Gent Winmag graphical fire alarm management systems would be beneficial, as would previous experience working within healthcare or other critical environments where safety and compliance are paramount.

In return, the role offers a permanent, site-based opportunity at two of London’s most recognised healthcare facilities, providing long-term stability and the chance to work on technically advanced fire detection systems. The package includes a competitive salary, company vehicle and fuel card, along with opportunities for additional training, professional development and career progression within a growing organisation. There are also opportunities to increase earnings through overtime on site and across other contracts.

If you’re an experienced Fire Alarm Engineer with Gent experience looking for a stable site-based role where your expertise directly contributes to the safety of a critical healthcare environment, I’d be very interested in speaking with you
