An exciting opportunity has arisen for a System Administrator to support the Lightning Systems Integration Facility (LSIF) located at the Maritime Integration & Support Centre (MISC) on Portsdown Hill, Portsmouth.

The facility supports the testing and integration of the F-35 Lightning II aircraft within the UK military infrastructure, providing a highly technical and secure environment for system integration activities.

This role will be responsible for the administration, maintenance and security of the LSIF IT systems, ensuring they are configured and available to support ongoing testing and integration activities. The successful candidate will work closely with suppliers, engineering teams and users to ensure systems remain operational and aligned with project requirements.

Skills:

  • Windows Server administration including Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, Disk Management, WSUS patching, and Hyper-V virtualisation.
  • Experience monitoring system logs and security tools such as SolarWinds, Kiwi Syslog, Splunk, and Trellix ePO.

Specific Deployment:

  • Target Shift Schedule: This position is essential to completing our 24/7 operational coverage. After an initial training period, this role will transition to a weekend-concentrated four (4) eleven-hour shifts per week (specifically Friday through Monday, 10 working hours plus 1 hour for lunch). This shift grants three (3) consecutive days off every week.

  • In-Office Requirement: This position requires a minimum 2-day per week in-office presence. Candidates must be within commutable distance of the regional CME Group office

Core Responsibilities & Focus:

  • Incident Response Leadership & Governance: Act as the operational escalation point of contact and owner for regional weekend teams during incidents involving Cyber Defense Applications. Direct and coordinate global response efforts, ensuring clear, concise communication and a unified operational strategy across shifts until incident resolution/closure or handover.

  • System Resiliency Coordination, Execution & Oversight: Assume full accountability for the definition, hands-on execution, and governance of security-related tasks during scheduled System Resiliency (Disaster Recovery) exercises. Oversee scheduled exercises as the regional team System Resilience Coordinator (SRC) to fulfill exercise responsibilities, ensure all coordination, issue management, documentation, and communication to stakeholders are handled to the highest standard and aligned with enterprise resilience policy.

  • Change Management & Weekend Authority:Serve as regional authorized Cyber Defense Operations escalation point of contact for the weekly Saturday Change Status meetings. Validate, prioritize, and complete assigned weekend operational task work and change execution while ensuring adherence to policy and procedure.

  • Tool Standardization and Maturity: Oversee the operational health, configuration, and maintenance lifecycle of security tools, ensuring collaborative alignment with peer and engineering teams across all time zones.

  • Mentorship & Knowledge Transfer: Mentor, develop, and set direction for the two-person teams in Belfast, Bengaluru, and the U.S., focusing on elevating technical skills, advanced incident analysis, and consistent operational best practices. Participate in and drive knowledge transfer between regional shifts to minimize operational variance and uplift the global team’s collective engineering capabilities.

Were looking for a Principal Materials Engineer with a strong non-metallic materials engineering background, to join our materials and test team to support the production and development of next generation composite aero structures, ice protection and transparency products. The role will be based in the Materials, Coatings and Test (MCT) team within the wider Engineering and Technology department and report to the Functional Team Leader.

The role as a Principal Materials Engineer will support the business and engineering team, with non polymer materials science and processing knowledge and guidance. The role will provide a deep understanding of the interactions between processing parameters and material properties of composites, Acrylics, Polycarbonates and adhesives, being able to guide and make decisions on new technology test plans and current production deviations.

There will be occasional travel, national and international, required to support customer visits and other GKN sites. You will also support the work of the business to establish safe working practices and necessary level of documentation. You will be involved with projects from the planning / assembly / instrumentation / commissioning phase though to successfully performing and reporting the test. You will also be responsible for providing specialist support to existing programmes within your field of expertise, helping to resolve manufacturing issues and supporting continuous improvement efforts.

You will have a proven track record of leading and delivering technical work, with strong communication skills being confident working with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including non-technical audiences.

Coordination/project lead for REACh activities: identification of arising issues regarding the REACh legislation, providing support and advice locally and to other GKN sites concerning the impact of REACh.
Preparing and defining tests/test plans; critical and systematic interpretation and analysis of test data, applying the outcome of tests for substantiation of specification changes.
Troubleshooting and production support on Materials Issues (e.g. Composites, polymers, bonding, surface treatments).
Maintaining contacts with suppliers regarding alternative/new products.
