About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands - on Lead Java Engineer with AI proficiency to help build the next generation FTSE Russell Index Platform. This platform underpins the calculation and distribution of FTSE Russell’s global family of indexes and requires advanced engineering, high precision data processing, and deep collaboration across global teams.
This is a deeply technical role focused on designing, building, integrating, and operationalising modern software and AI driven capabilities across internal platforms and client facing products. You will work with innovative technologies, contribute to complex algorithmic design, and drive engineering excellence in a high performance , data intensive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Core Engineering & Platform Delivery
Design, develop, and maintain complex Java and Python applications using modern engineering practices. Build / embed AI powered features into mission critical systems.
Architect and enhance services that support large scale , performance critical index computations.
Collaborate with Product Managers, UX, and engineering teams globally to deliver high quality products.
Lead projects end - to - end through requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and operations.
Build and maintain automated test suites to ensure performance, scalability, and security.
Diagnose production issues, identify root causes, and deliver Level 3 support and fixes.
Conduct peer reviews, provide technical leadership, and mentor junior engineers.
Required Experience & Skills
12+ years of hands - on backend software engineering experience.
Support the organisation’s AI adoption journey . Develop and enhance intelligent solutions using LLMs, LangChain / LangGraph , and agentic AI frameworks.
Establish engineering best practices for safe, scalable, traceable and production ready AI deployments across internal platforms and external product suites.
Strong algorithms, data structures, problem solving skills , and ability to translate business problems into scalable solutions.
Good command of coding standards and Strong understanding of both high level and low level software design
Expertise in:
Core Java , Python
Building highly distributed, data intensive systems
Microservices, REST APIs
RDBMS (Oracle/SQL Server/Postgres)
CI/CD tools (Jenkins/GitLab), DevOps automation
Docker, Kubernetes
JVM profiling & performance optimisation
Prior exposure to Level 3 production support.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience leading or mentoring a team of engineers .
Experience within financial services or with financial market data.
Familiarity with in - memory caching, Spring Boot, Redis, Kafka.
Experience with BDD frameworks such as Cucumber, JBehave , or Karate.
Experience running Agile teams.

Role Profile:
The Business Consultant, provides deep domain knowledge and solution design expertise throughout the entire sales cycle by supporting customer engagements via activities such as gathering requirements, running customer workshops, solution design, developing proof of concepts, demonstrating solution capabilities, specifying deliverables in a Statement of Work and also building/delivering these solutions.
The consultant works in close partnership with the Sales team who lead the business, contractual and commercial engagement with the customer.
Solutions and services supported by the Consulting team cut across the full spectrum of capabilities within the Data and Feeds portfolio, so Solutions Architects typically have a mix of strong technical, product and customer expertise.
The successful candidate will typically have proven experience with real-time data feeds and a proven track record in supporting the sale of solutions in complex and challenging environments.

What You’ll Bring:
Expertise : You will have had hands on experience in proposing solution designs, Realtime Feed delivery, infrastructure hosting, snap and bulk content delivery.
Technical: A deep hands-on understanding of infrastructure, hosting, cloud, Linux servers, databases, common API technologies and concepts including Websockets, Restful API’s, FTP and VPN.
Ability to respond positively to pressure and take a flexible approach to the dynamic, fast moving market data field.
Knowledge of Financial Markets and how they work
Industry knowledge and hands-on experience of Docker, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Python, Java
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a related position

Position Description
We are looking for a Head of Development to work within the front office development team that will work on its trading platforms. Examples of projects include building high-capacity OMS, low latency EMS platform and market connectivity. This is a rare opportunity to work on engineering an end-to-end in-house built platform supporting global front office business. The ideal candidate would be motivated by leveraging cutting-edge high throughput, low latency technologies to resolve challenges in trading platforms. In effect, someone who will find the correct solution to an engineering problem when left on their own because they like to solve problems well. Domain knowledge on OMS/ EMS/ Market Connectivity is. At the same time, they should work well in teams, as a contributor and/or leader. Communication and clarity are critical, as decisions made will have long lasting and significant effects on a critical global initiative, therefore they need to be convincing and recorded so they can be reviewed with hindsight and learned from.

We’re working with a leading fixed income hedge fund in London that is expanding its front‑office engineering team. The fund has a strong performance track record, a deep commitment to technology, and a culture where engineers work side‑by‑side with quants and traders to build the systems that drive the investment process. In this role, you’ll help design, build, and enhance a range of high‑impact trading and research platforms. Projects vary from core trading system development to front‑office tooling, data‑driven applications, and the use of machine learning across the investment workflow. It’s a fast-moving, highly technical environment where code quality, performance, and reliability matter. The team runs weekly sprints, uses modern engineering practices (PR reviews, rapid releases, continuous development), and has a strong track record of developing talent. We’ve partnered with this group and their CTO, for several years and have placed multiple engineers into the team, so can provide detailed insight into structure, expectations, and progression. The fund looks for low‑ego, high‑performing engineers who enjoy ownership, collaboration, and solving complex problems with pragmatic, commercial solutions. You’ll have direct interaction with PMs, quants, and the CTO, contributing across design, architecture, and production support. Tech Environment 1. C# and .NET are central to the team’s core systems 2. Python is widely used across quant and data groups 3. Open to candidates from other OO backgrounds (C++, Java, Go) with strong fundamentals 4.
