About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands - on Lead Java Engineer with AI proficiency to help build the next generation FTSE Russell Index Platform. This platform underpins the calculation and distribution of FTSE Russell’s global family of indexes and requires advanced engineering, high precision data processing, and deep collaboration across global teams.

This is a deeply technical role focused on designing, building, integrating, and operationalising modern software and AI driven capabilities across internal platforms and client facing products. You will work with innovative technologies, contribute to complex algorithmic design, and drive engineering excellence in a high performance , data intensive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Core Engineering & Platform Delivery

• Design, develop, and maintain complex Java and Python applications using modern engineering practices. Build / embed AI powered features into mission critical systems.

• Architect and enhance services that support large scale , performance critical index computations.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, UX, and engineering teams globally to deliver high quality products.

• Lead projects end - to - end through requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and operations.

• Build and maintain automated test suites to ensure performance, scalability, and security.

• Diagnose production issues, identify root causes, and deliver Level 3 support and fixes.

• Conduct peer reviews, provide technical leadership, and mentor junior engineers.

Required Experience & Skills

• 12+ years of hands - on backend software engineering experience.

• Support the organisation’s AI adoption journey . Develop and enhance intelligent solutions using LLMs, LangChain / LangGraph , and agentic AI frameworks.

• Establish engineering best practices for safe, scalable, traceable and production ready AI deployments across internal platforms and external product suites.

• Strong algorithms, data structures, problem solving skills , and ability to translate business problems into scalable solutions.

• Good command of coding standards and Strong understanding of both high level and low level software design

• Expertise in:

• Core Java , Python

• Building highly distributed, data intensive systems

• Microservices, REST APIs

• RDBMS (Oracle/SQL Server/Postgres)

• CI/CD tools (Jenkins/GitLab), DevOps automation

• Docker, Kubernetes

• JVM profiling & performance optimisation

• Prior exposure to Level 3 production support.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience leading or mentoring a team of engineers .

• Experience within financial services or with financial market data.

• Familiarity with in - memory caching, Spring Boot, Redis, Kafka.

• Experience with BDD frameworks such as Cucumber, JBehave , or Karate.

• Experience running Agile teams.

Role Profile:

The Business Consultant, provides deep domain knowledge and solution design expertise throughout the entire sales cycle by supporting customer engagements via activities such as gathering requirements, running customer workshops, solution design, developing proof of concepts, demonstrating solution capabilities, specifying deliverables in a Statement of Work and also building/delivering these solutions.

The consultant works in close partnership with the Sales team who lead the business, contractual and commercial engagement with the customer.

Solutions and services supported by the Consulting team cut across the full spectrum of capabilities within the Data and Feeds portfolio, so Solutions Architects typically have a mix of strong technical, product and customer expertise.

The successful candidate will typically have proven experience with real-time data feeds and a proven track record in supporting the sale of solutions in complex and challenging environments.

What You’ll Bring:

• Expertise : You will have had hands on experience in proposing solution designs, Realtime Feed delivery, infrastructure hosting, snap and bulk content delivery.

• Technical: A deep hands-on understanding of infrastructure, hosting, cloud, Linux servers, databases, common API technologies and concepts including Websockets, Restful API’s, FTP and VPN.

ROLE SUMMARY:

FTSE Russell, a leader in global indexing and analytics, is seeking a skilled and motivated Quantitative Engineer to build robust, scalable and automated applications that support trillions in assets. You will have a combined understanding and background in software engineering, quantitative finance and data analysis to help build the next generation of Index solutions. Your work will be at the intersection of finance and technology, working alongside other analysts and engineers supporting the timely delivery of high-quality software, and fostering a culture of learning, innovation and continuous improvement.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

As a Quantitative Engineer, you’ll build with purpose - solving real-world problems with measurable impact. You will need to possess an excellent attention to detail and an ability to think laterally to solve business problems alongside an ability to hit the ground running, learn quickly and work against tight deadlines.

• Develop and Engineer: Write clean, efficient, maintainable code to support index calculations, back-testing, performance attribution and analytics frameworks used for internal and external stakeholders. Build tools to streamline Index monitoring, validation and rebalancing as well as ad-hoc requests.
• Work with data: Integrate, process, clean and analyze financial datasets including traded instruments (equity, fixed-income, currencies, commodities and their derivatives), reference and alternative data, and ensure their appropriateness for production grade applications.

Job Purpose:
The Fixed Income Connectivity team globally supports connectivity and routing solutions to ECN platforms and clients. This is achieved using a mixture of Direct FIX API connections and a variety of vendors APIs/Platforms. Knowledge/Experience:

• Strong focus on system performance tuning and experience with low latency programming techniques
• Strong academic record, ideally with a Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science,

engineering or related technical or quantitative discipline

• Demonstrable success in designing and delivering complex applications
• Strong software development fundamentals, data structures, design patterns, Object-Oriented programming, architecture, algorithms, and problem-solving skills
• Solid understanding of service architecture and high performance, low latency, and multithreading techniques
• Experience of developing market connectivity applications is highly desirable
• Prior experience in building e-trading systems is highly desirable
• Knowledge of any financial products like Interest Rates, Spread Products, FX, Equities or Futures (e.g. bonds, interest rate swaps, repos) is highly desirable

£50,000 - £70,000 plus package

Our client, a leading UK cyber security organisation, is currently seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to work on critical National Security projects that help protect nations, governments and businesses against evolving digital threats and challenges in the most demanding environments.

The DevOps Engineer will have:

• Experience with AWS cloud platforms
• Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), or database systems
• Strong programming experience in one or more of JavaScript, Java, .Net, or Python
• Proven experience working within agile environments
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks
• Understanding of common software design patterns and static code analysis tools

As a DevOps Engineer you will:

• Collaboratively design and build Proof of Concept or Production systems that form part of properly engineered information or communications solutions
• Utilise CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo, TeamCity and Bitbucket
• Work with Version Control Systems including Git, Mercurial, and Perforce
• Implement and maintain automated testing frameworks
• Deploy and manage Cloud Computing infrastructure, particularly AWS and MS Azure
• Work with containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes
• Have opportunities to mentor junior level engieers (for Senior)

The Package:

• £50,000 - £70,000 base salary
• Discretionary bonus scheme
