Knowledge:

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced technical Lead Test Engineer to join our delivery teams, supporting a range of projects, from small electronic prototypes with embedded software to complex on-prem and cloud systems projects.

We are looking for a self-starter, someone with a passion for Test, ideally from a Technical and/or Systems Integration background. The successful candidate will join existing SW Development teams and help define good test process, lead and deliver early-stage testing with the SW Dev. teams, and help grow the Test Practice as the Portfolio continues to grow.

This role demands strong technical leadership, excellent communication skills, flexibility and a good understanding of engineering and testing practices. You will be responsible for defining test strategies, planning and leading test activities, ensuring alignment with project goals under some very short delivery timescales.

The work spans several customers and a broad range of technologies and so requires a flexible and adaptive approach to testing whilst maintaining appropriate rigor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Test Leadership & Strategy

  • With support of the Portfolio Chief Engineer, define appropriate test strategies/approaches for each project.
  • With support of the Project Leads, conduct test planning for each project, ensuring alignment with timescales and quality (including safety and security) objectives.
  • Champion quality assurance throughout the development lifecycle, embedding testing into appropriate workflows.
  • Work with the customers to achieve formal acceptance of each Project’s Scope

Test Execution & Reporting

  • With the support of the Development teams, document appropriate Test Specifications for each project.
  • Ensure traceability of project scope to test cases and defects, agreeing an appropriate coverage with the key stakeholders
  • Document test progress, defect trends, and provide real-time reporting to stakeholders.
  • Drive defect triage and resolution in collaboration with development teams.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Test Lead or Senior Test Engineer in Waterfall and Agile environments, preferably in the Defence sector.
  • Excellent technical leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in systems integration testing, including interfaces, data flows, and end-to-end scenarios.
  • Demonstrated experience testing both cloud-based and server-based applications.
  • Good, general, familiarity with Test Automation practices is required.
  • Experience working with RF and embedded systems is a bonus.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • ISTQB Advanced Test Manager or equivalent experience
  • Experience in regulated environments (e.g. defence, law enforcement).
  • Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD practices.

Due to the nature of the work, the majority will be conducted on customer sites, with only a small amount of remote working possible.

As a Quality Assurance Technologist at KP Snacks Ashby, you’ll play a hands-on role in keeping our food safety and quality standards high across site. The opportunity

You will work closely with engineering teams and Product Assurance Managers to ensure high-quality, reliable products, minimise non-conformance, and support successful equipment delivery.

As a Quality Assurance Engineer, you will:

  • Develop and maintain equipment quality plans
