TheOpportunity:
Working within the existing design team of this quality British designed and manufactured product, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, engineering and specification of all new products. You will also work on improving the design and maintenance of the existing product range, and any modifications as may become necessary. Design for manufacture experience is vital to your success in this fabulous Design Engineers position.
The Opportunity:

  • Work closely with the Technical Engineering Manager, design and development department taking products from conception to detailed engineering drawings for manufacture.
  • Determine manufacturing methods for engineering designs accounting for both in house and external manufacture capabilities.
  • Ensure that tolerance analysis is carried out during the design process, allowing for ease of manufacture, product function and eliminating tolerance build up issues during product manufacture and assembly.
  • Work with all departments involved in the NPD program, in particular, Development, Production Engineering & Purchasing, ensuring design for manufacture is implemented prior to product handover.
  • Work with the Production Engineering department to optimise designs to reduce costs, increase efficiency and maintain product quality.
  • Ensure Bill of Materials spreadsheets are generated during the design process enabling Production Engineering to generate product manufacturing costs.
  • Ensure new product progress feedback sheets are filled out and kept up to date.

Preferred Skills:
Minimum of 2 years experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer.

  • Either degree educated or a proven engineering background with a strong bias to mechanical engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability in product development from initial prototype to mass production.
  • Sheet metal manufacture experience and knowledge of sheet metal processes would be ideal.
  • Proven experience of working with Solid Edge Solid Works.

About the Role

About the Role:
As a Product Designer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing both consumer (B2C) and developer (B2B) experiences. What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Exceptional attention to detail, especially with visual design principles such as composition, typography, and layout.
  • Demonstrable expertise in user-centered design, with a track record in both consumer and developer-facing products.
  • Proficient in Figma, with a solid understanding of HTML/CSS and advanced Figma features like Auto Layout and Components.
  • A portfolio that highlights your contributions to design systems and showcases your work for B2C and B2B audiences.
  • Proven ability to deliver products across both desktop and mobile platforms.
  • A deep understanding of scalable, modular, and accessible designs that serve diverse user bases.
  • Thrives in collaborative, fast-paced environments and works effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Open to giving and receiving constructive feedback to elevate team outcomes.
  • Experience with experimentation and data-driven design decisions.
  • At least 4 years of experience in digital product design, focusing on design systems and cross-platform solutions.

The Role

Function:

  • Developing and maintaining documentation for tooling, managing projects from initial design to the first production run, and ensuring adherence to schedules and budgets.

  • Consulting with outside vendors and suppliers to discuss tooling requirements, negotiate costs, and ensure the quality and timely delivery of materials and equipment.
