The role combines technical leadership, client-facing responsibilities and team management within a growing, sustainability-focused MEP design practice.?

The position sits within the senior leadership group, with responsibility for shaping project delivery, supporting net zero and low-carbon design strategies, and mentoring engineers at all levels

Role responsibilities and requirements

• Lead electrical building services design on new build, refurbishment and retrofit projects, from concept through to handover, ensuring compliance with current standards and client requirements.
• Act as primary client contact on assigned projects, handling both technical and commercial discussions and building long-term relationships.
• Plan and manage workloads, resources and programme across multiple simultaneous projects, supporting the senior leadership team on pipeline and resourcing decisions.
• Provide technical leadership on healthcare projects, including application of HTMs and HBNs (or equivalent), and support the development of sector capability across the team.
• Coordinate with mechanical, public health and sustainability/net zero specialists to deliver integrated MEP solutions, using appropriate digital tools and BIM workflows.
• Produce and review detailed electrical designs, calculations, reports and specifications using tools such as IES / IES-VE, AutoCAD, MagiCAD and Revit, with a strong focus on energy efficiency and low or net zero carbon outcomes.
• Support bids, fee proposals and presentations, contributing to business development and the growth of key sectors and clients.
• Take an active role in coaching and mentoring junior and intermediate engineers, promoting a collaborative, open and supportive team culture.

Key skills and qualities needed

• Degree-qualified in Building Services, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (BEng or MEng), with Chartered Engineer status (or close to achieving) and membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. MIET, MCIBSE).
• Substantial UK design consultancy experience (typically 710+ years), including leading electrical design on multi-disciplinary projects up to £100m+ construction value.
• Strong healthcare sector experience and working knowledge of HTMs and HBNs, or directly transferable complex environment experience (e.g. laboratories, cleanrooms).
• Excellent technical capability in electrical building services design, including current regulations, best practice and emerging low-carbon technologies.
• Proven project management skills, with the ability to manage scope, fees, risk and financial performance across multiple projects.
• Confident communicator, able to engage effectively with clients, design teams and contractors, and to represent the business professionally at meetings and presentations.
