Introduction

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer for one of our CMS product teams, working from the UK, to help us shape the future of Optimizely’s products and offerings. We’re at the top of industry analyst ratings and pushing to take both the PaaS and SaaS versions of our CMS further. A big part of that push is Opal, our always on AI workforce that improves productivity for content teams. Building on that capability is one of the things that makes this moment particularly interesting. Our engineers have been working on our CMS for years, many of them because they genuinely love it, and they’re eager to take it to the next level. This is your opportunity to join them.

About The Team

You’d join a group of teams with many senior engineers who have deep product knowledge and diverse technical backgrounds. Personal and cultural fit matters as much as skills and experience here. The team collaborates closely, both remotely and in person, with a culture built around trust and open communication. We have an office in London, and if you’re based there, we’d expect you to work from the office a few days per week. If you’re elsewhere in the UK, we fully support remote work.

We care about work life balance in practice, not just on paper. We work across time zones but respect local working hours, family commitments, and your physical and mental health. There are occasions where a critical production issue or urgent release requires work outside normal hours, but that is the exception, not the norm. Many of us have been here a long time. That’s not inertia, it’s because the work stays interesting and the environment is healthy.

What You’d Do

  • Design, implement, and document software solutions that are simple, secure, scalable, and maintainable.
  • Own the operational excellence of your domain, including instrumentation, monitoring and alerting.
  • Ensure product quality through thorough automated testing.
  • Drive delivery of complex features end to end, working across team boundaries when needed.
  • Contribute to architecture and design discussions within your team and across teams, communicating decisions through design docs and knowledge sharing forums.
  • Participate in project planning, requirements gathering, design, and task refinement.
  • Handle incidents and assist our support organisation when they need engineering expertise on customer cases.
  • Bring customer perspective into technical decisions, understanding how the product is used in practice.
  • Mentor other engineers and share knowledge across the team.
  • Participate in hiring and help grow a diverse engineering organisation.

What We’re Looking For

We value personal and cultural fit as much as technical skill. You are self motivated, enjoy collaborating to find the right solution, and you think about architecture, development cost, and long term ownership when making decisions. You’re comfortable working through ambiguity, can articulate trade offs clearly, and leave projects in a state where someone else can pick them up.

Must have:

  • Typically 8+ years of professional experience with modern software development practices, though we recognise some people get there faster.
  • Strong software design and engineering fundamentals, including object oriented analysis and design.
  • Solid experience with C# and .NET, and with React on the frontend.
  • Hands on experience with CMS platforms, content modelling, or digital experience tooling. You understand the domain and the problems content teams face.
  • Experience building and operating cloud based software.
  • Already using AI tools, coding assistants, and potentially agents as part of your daily workflow to improve both quality and speed.
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment alongside designers, product managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Good communicator who enjoys solving problems together with others.

Good to have:

  • Experience with Optimizely CMS or other CMS/DXP platforms.
  • NET Core MVC.
  • SQL (particularly MS SQL).
  • Containers and container orchestration.
  • HTTP APIs, REST services, or GraphQL.
  • Experience building large, modular applications with continuous delivery.
  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent. We care more about what you can do than what’s on your diploma.

Optimizely is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. Optimizely is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or other legally protected status.

You will be responsible for designing, building, and operating scalable, secure backend systems that power the company’s revenue-generating experiences to ensure monetisation flows are reliable, compliant, observable, and performant at scale.

To be right for this role, you should have extensive experience in Backend development with some specific experience with in-app purchases, pricing, and other revenue-related services.

What you will do:

  • Drive outcomes, not just features. You’ll own the health of our monetisation funnel and be responsible for the reliability and performance of the systems that keep Feeld sustainable.
  • Design and maintain scalable backend systems that support integrations related to subscriptions, billing, entitlements, pricing logic, and promotional mechanics as the user base grows.
  • Ensure high reliability and correctness of monetisation flows, minimising revenue-impacting incidents and reducing time-to-detection and resolution.
  • Enable faster experimentation by supporting feature flags, testing, and analytics instrumentation across monetisation systems.
  • In partnership with the Data team, build and maintain analytics and reporting capabilities that provide insight into revenue performance, user behavior, and system health.

How you will grow:

  • Deepen your expertise in designing and operating revenue-critical systems at scale.
  • Develop advanced skills in system observability, monitoring, and incident response for high-throughput financial workloads.
  • Expand your knowledge of analytics infrastructure, experimentation frameworks, and data-driven product development.
  • Improve your collaborating skills with non-technical partners by translating complex technical concepts into clear business insights

About you:

  • You have experience designing, building, and maintaining backend services that handle high-throughput, business-critical workloads such as payments, subscriptions, or financial systems.
  • You are comfortable working with databases, APIs, and ensuring data integrity and security in production environments.
  • You are skilled at communicating technical concepts clearly to non-technical cross-functional partners.
  • You approach problems with curiosity and systems thinking, balancing technical excellence with business impact and user experience.

Bonus points:

  • You have experience building or maintaining subscription platforms, billing systems, or working directly with payment providers like Adapty, Stripe, RevenueCat, or Apple/Google in-app purchase APIs.
  • You have worked with analytics pipelines, experimentation frameworks, or feature flagging systems to support data-driven product decisions.
  • You have mentored other engineers or led technical initiatives that improved system reliability, performance, or developer experience.
  • You have experience with mobile backend integration or supporting cross-platform monetisation flows across iOS, Android, and web.

Our goal is a barrier-free application process and working environment. If you require further details or assistance or have any questions about this process, please let us know at .

  • Unlimited paid time off
  • A fully remote working situation
  • Home office budget

That is why we offer a compensation system that is transparent, honest, and equitable. Additionally, we believe all humans deserve to earn a competitive wage, so we offer a Baseline Freedom Salary of £60,000 GBP per year for any role that indexes below £60,000 GBP per year.

Estimated compensation for this role:

  • The total cash compensation for this role is dependent on Level and Step, as well as geographic location, but we estimate that the competitive market compensation for this role is between £75,000 - £110,000 GBP based on the requirements listed in this job description.

Our interview process:

  • Your first conversation with Feeld will be a screening call with our recruiter, where you’ll be able to ask - and receive answers - regarding any general questions you have and to confirm the role is a fit for what you’re seeking.
  • Your second conversation will connect you directly with the hiring manager for the role you’re applying to. Here, you’ll have a chance to ask more questions about the work you’ll be doing. This conversation will also focus on your past work experiences.
  • The next step for most of our roles is a candidate challenge. This is an evaluation of the skills relevant to be successful in this role and generally takes about an hour to complete.
  • Your third conversation allows you the opportunity to meet the team members you might be working with on a daily basis. Here, you’ll be able to ask questions about team processes, workflow, and the employee experience at Feeld.
  • We generally make an offer within 2 weeks of our final call, and offer a flexible start date that can begin as early as the next Monday after you sign our offer documentation.
  • Of note: all of our interviews are conducted remotely, and our interviewers will work with you to find an agreeable interview time based on mutual availability.

We understand we’re asking you to invest your time and best efforts in our process, and are appreciative of getting the chance to better know who you are as a person and candidate. Available Locations: London, UK

Role Summary

Workers Observability (WOBS) Team provides a growing suite of tools to monitor, troubleshoot and optimize applications on the Cloudflare Developer platform. These tools increasingly work across Cloudflare products to provide complete visibility into user applications. We aim to make these tools not only best in class but also frictionless and intuitive to use. All this within the context of Cloudflare’s scale and globally distributed infrastructure.

Team members help design and ship core software features across the observability stack - including the frontend customer experience, integrations with other Cloudflare primitives, and our internal data stores and ingestion pipelines. You will own code across the development lifecycle from design to release including QA, incident management, and performance optimization.

The Systems Engineer role is a full stack position which requires extensive cross functional collaboration. On a given day you might incorporate frontend feedback from a customer, run a ClickHouse query to diagnose a data ingestion bug, and propose a better tracing integration with another product on the Workers platform.

Role Responsibilities

  • Customer Focus: Be responsive to customer escalations, bug reports, and product feedback, and participate in pager duty for our production systems.
  • Software Development: Efficiently and reliably deliver high quality software that meets the performance requirements of Cloudflare’s systems.
  • Troubleshooting: Address complex and subtle issues on our platform, which may require debugging across multiple systems, languages, and datastores.
  • Communication: Maintain clear written communication across a range of platforms as part of a globally distributed team (from US West Coast to UK) and across a range of different engineering and support teams.

Role Requirements (Must Have Skills)

  • Strong proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably a typed language (e.g. Go, TypeScript, Rust) as well as SQL.
  • Experience building high volume distributed systems using cloud primitives (AWS, GCP, CF), including queues, key value stores, relational databases, blob storage, and serverless compute.
  • Experience troubleshooting distributed data systems including working with logs and data stores.

Nice to Have Skills

  • Working with lower level languages like Rust or C++.
  • Building frontend application in Typescript and React.
  • Building applications on the Cloudflare platform.
  • Working with observability platforms and tools.

What Makes Cloudflare Special?

We’re not just a highly ambitious, large scale technology company. We’re a highly ambitious, large scale technology company with a soul. Fundamental to our mission to help build a better Internet is protecting the free and open Internet.

Project Galileo: Since 2014, we’ve equipped more than 2,400 journalism and civil society organizations in 111 countries with powerful tools to defend themselves against attacks that would otherwise censor their work, technology already used by Cloudflare’s enterprise customers-at no cost.

Athenian Project: In 2017, we created the Athenian Project to ensure that state and local governments have the highest level of protection and reliability for free, so that their constituents have access to election information and voter registration. Since the project, we’ve provided services to more than 425 local government election websites in 33 states.

1.1.1.1: We released 1.1.1.1 to help fix the foundation of the Internet by building a faster, more secure and privacy centric public DNS resolver. This is available publicly for everyone to use-our privacy commitment means we do not store client IP addresses or sell user data to advertisers or for targeting.

Sound like something you’d like to be a part of? We’d love to hear from you!

This position may require access to information protected under U.S. export control laws, including the U.S. Export Administration Regulations. Please note that any offer of employment may be conditioned on your authorization to receive software or technology controlled under these U.S. export laws without sponsorship for an export license.
