Are you an experienced Civil Engineer with a passion for civil engineering and the energy sector?

Freedom Professional Services are seeking an individual with a strong technical expertise in a broad range of civil engineering disciplines to join our growing electricity transmission and distribution design team. With your strong technical expertise, you will be asked to lead the civil design of electricity substations across the UK from concept to completion and be able to work in close collaboration with other internal teams (electrical design, structural, surveys, wayleaves, cables, environmental), along with clients and stakeholders to ensure that all requirements are met.

Some of the key deliverables in this role will include:

  • Lead the production and review of engineering drawings engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and reports for masonry buildings, steel portal frames, transformer bunds, drainage systems and roads, on projects ranging in construction contract value of £100K - £20M.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to ensure the effective delivery of projects, providing updates and identifying issues that could risk programme, quality or cost.
  • Attend progress meetings as required at client/contractor offices or construction sites.
  • Attend design team meetings to ensure the timely flow and release of quality information and to ensure that this information corresponds with the scope of works.
  • Management of design risks to deliver buildable solutions.

We are looking for an experienced and ambitious civil engineer with the following attributes:

  • A proven experience of working in a design environment for the construction of traditional masonry buildings, steel portal frames and reinforced concrete.

  • Experience in client-facing roles, with the ability to manage client relationships effectively

  • Ability to lead delivery of multiple simultaneous technical projects in a challenging environment.

  • Strong communication skills to engage in technical discussions with colleagues, non-technical staff, and clients.

  • Strong commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning

  • You’ll have a degree in Civil Engineering (or related subject) and be working toward Chartered or Incorporated status with a relevant professional body such as ICE.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within the electricity distribution sector, particularly in substation design and electrical infrastructure
  • Practical experience with AutoCAD, Revit and Civils3D for civil engineering design

Role Overview

As an Innovations engineer you will be helping maintain and develop software-based solutions to business problems in a small team of full-stack software engineers. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Writing Visual Basic/.NET software to support and update a key legacy application used across the business.
  • Writing C#/.NET software to automate manual processes and help improve efficiencies across the business.
  • Functioning as a full-stack developer, working within a small team that is delivering both front-end and back-end software.
  • Contributing to the design of Innovations projects.

In this critical role, you will specialise in diagnosing faults on PCB assemblies down to component level.   • The primary focus of this role is to guide the security aspects of product development across the whole product lifecycle, from concept through to in-service support

The opportunity:

This opportunity is for a Test Engineer to join the Manufacturing team supporting test and diagnostics of electrical/electronic sub-systems and circuit cards during all phases of the product lifecycle. You will be providing technical support to the manufacturing test capability, to ensure programme targets are met to agreed time, cost and quality requirements.

  • Providing Test Engineering support during Design / Development phases from initial concept through to Production Readiness Review and release to Operations.
  • Supporting Test Facility introduction and ensuring that appropriate configuration control of equipment and facilities is in place prior to use, including generating supporting test specifications and operator instructions.
  • Supporting testing of electrical/electronic sub-assemblies and circuit cards, with diagnosis of production test failures down to component level.
  • Working closely with Operations, the design teams and other stakeholders to overcome any technical challenges.
  • Always aiming to deliver in line with all programme and quality requirements, whilst maintaining Test Engineering functional governance and pursuing continuous improvement.

You will be working with a small team of dedicated engineers in a fast-paced but friendly and inclusive manufacturing environment. The team has a great mix of people, ranging from apprentices and graduates through to experienced engineers, all striving to deliver technical excellence across a number of different missile systems in development and production.

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Minimum HNC level of qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject (HND/Degree preferred) plus experience in digital and analogue electronics manufacture and test.
  • A good understanding of electrical/electronic measurement and test principles and test equipment, as well as fault diagnosis techniques for electronic/electro-mechanical sub-assemblies.
  • Experience of using both manual and automated test equipment, preferably in a defence organisation or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Familiar with enterprise resource planning and manufacturing execution system programs (e.g. SAP, MES) for recording test activities and generating non-conformance reports and concessions.
  • The ability to plan and organise own work in order to ensure multiple tasks can be prioritised and delivered against Project objectives.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including generation of test specifications, operator instructions and technical reports based on higher-level requirements.
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
