The Luton Engineering & Technology team is focused on developing product and manufacturing process technology related to aircraft ice protection systems, transparencies and coatings, and specialist structures for both civil and defence applications.

We are looking for anIndustrialisation Engineer to join our Industrialisation team to support Capex / sustainability / NPI projects from cradle to grave across our existing and future programs. Working with Key stakeholders across the site, the post holder key objectives are to support and deliver manufacturing systems in compliance with identified requirements including Producibility, Productivity, Manufacturing cost, Regulatory/Customer/EHS requirements and adherence to Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) standards, whilst delivering these projects to the agreed Budget and Schedule following recognised project management methodologies.

TheIndustrialisation Engineer will support and deliver projects including the Planning, Development, Commissioning and Industrialisation of Manufacturing Systems & Processes for the Luton manufacturing site. The engineers development will include internal and external training as required.

Core operational hours at our Luton site are: 07:30 - 16:30 Monday to Thursday & 07:30 - 12:30 Friday, there is flexibility with working hours as arranged with the manager. There is the requirement to undertake occasional travel when required nationally and internationally, to meet suppliers.

Job Responsibilities

NPI - the industrialisation Engineer is responsible for the supporting and leading of designated projects including bid development, planning, delivery, and commissioning of Manufacturing Systems and Processes for New Product Introduction programmes [LG3->LG7]. Working with Design Engineering and Programme management, they are responsible for delivering a manufacturing system that fulfils all stakeholder requirements (Safety, Logistics, Quality, Producibility & Business case metrics), including development and maturity of Manufacturing processes and documentation.
Capex - the industrialisation Engineer is responsible for the delivery of CAPEX projects, from supporting the business case development through equipment specification, procurement, commissioning and implementation to ensure productivity & quality targets are met. This includes Identification of new technologies and their development & exploitation, and benchmarking of processes across the GKN portfolio of products.
Sustainability - the Industrialisation Engineer will lead/support continuous Improvement and obsolescence projects throughout the site as identified by the business.
Leadership of Projects - the industrialisation Engineer is responsible for technical leadership of designated industrialisation projects including manufacturing system design, equipment identification and specification, implementation and deliver of APQP activities to ensure robust process capability and ongoing performance. This includes Project Management, Planning, Resource identification, budgeting, & Project reporting within functional and Enterprise standards.
Quality Responsible for ensuring implemented solutions deliver the required quality against specification requirements and further deliver sustained manufactured Product quality and drive a quality mind-set within the engineering team and ensure compliance to agreed Customer, Regulatory, Business and functional standards including AS9145 (ZDM).
Relationships - Maintain positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, key stakeholders within the business. Foster and champion 5 principles within sphere of influence.

Reporting to the Head of Estates and Projects and working with the estates team, you will be responsible for delivering the capital developments across the estate, including a focus on new schools, sustainability projects and efficiency standards.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing SCA project priorities, budgets and delivery from inception to end of defects
  • Managing the opening and delivery of new free schools with the DfE, design teams and local authorities
  • Managing and supporting estate condition, maintenance and asset management
  • Managing capital elements of academy conversion projects
  • Planning, procuring and delivering high-quality estate and project services
  • Managing and monitoring external technical advisors
  • Managing health & safety across all project lifecycles
  • Managing third-party suppliers and consultants
  • Managing consultations, admissions, branding, marketing, FF&E and uniforms for new schools
  • Providing professional property services and ensuring compliance with legislation and regulations
  • Assisting with estate-related policies, procedures and statutory frameworks
  • Contributing to capital fund prioritisation and overseeing capital projects
  • Assisting in developing a carbon reduction strategy
  • Managing and supporting key building programmes and reporting to senior leaders
  • Contributing to monthly project performance reports

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • A relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in a project management environment
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Project management experience within education, not-for-profit or public sector
  • Experience of coordinating projects in complex and challenging environments
  • Demonstrable successful delivery of project outputs to required time, quality and cost
  • The ability to interpret and present complex information to inform robust recommendations for evidence-based practice and decision-making
  • Proven and well-developed interpersonal skills, including excellent written and spoken communication
  • Good administrative, finance and organisational skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications, including strong Excel skills
  • The ability to work independently and flexibly with your own initiative on various ongoing projects
  • A professional working ethic and a commitment to high standards
  • The ability to ensure that confidentiality is always maintained
  • The ability to upskill oneself with new areas of expertise
