The TGW Retrofit team are looking for an experienced controls engineer to join the department as a Lead Commissioning Engineer

You will be working closely with the controls project manager to develop and provide control system functions for retrofit projects. These projects can range in value up to a few million pounds and really need an experienced controls engineer to take the reins and ensure the engineering is completed on time and to spec.

You’ll be working on roles across Northern Europe and will likely enjoy the rush of working on multiple smaller projects vs one large one at a time.

WHAT YOULL BE HANDLING

  • To understand design requirements and undertake mathematical analysis where necessary to produce concept designs for materials handling machines. This process will involve collaboration with other departments within the business such as Sales, LTS, Realisation and System Integration Management Teams.
  • To work with systems and hardware design teams, to produce functional electro-mechanical layouts and electrical panels. These designs may require the introduction of new technologies.
  • As a key member of a small team. We need to be diverse in our job functions. There will be opportunities to carry out SYEC work and HWEC work. Training will be provide in both these disciplines.
  • Define and agree interface points and requirement with Warehouse Management System Teams.
  • Develop software concepts and PLC\HMI code using mainly but not restricted to Siemens Step 7, and Siemens TIA Portal
  • To emulate and test PLC code were required.
  • To develop interface requirements for WCS systems, HMIs and SCADA
  • Test, evaluate and perfect the PLC software and produce documentation and design guides so that the PLC commissioning teams can understand and implement this software.
  • To maintain revision control across PLC code libraries developed by the team and to document all changes
  • Where needed, work as part of the commissioning team on retrofit projects to ensure knowledge transfer is complete and all issues have been resolved with the newly developed PLC code.
  • To promote and steer company standards and ensure best practise is implemented in the design.
  • Good Housekeeping skills including revision control, as-built documentation etc.
  • As part of working within a smaller specialised team, such as the retrofit team is, you will also undertake certain elements of System and hardware Engineering and at times carry out some minor project management duties. All training will be given for you to fulfil these tasks, if you are required to do such work.

WHAT YOULL NEED

Required

  • Ability to design/develop PLC code ideally using Siemens S7 (300/400) & TIA software including complex application and bespoke interfaces.
  • To be able to take customer / TGW requirements and produce detailed design documentation.
  • Extensive experience of commissioning and testing in an engineering / industrial environment.
  • Detailed understanding of control system hardware, networks, fieldbus and industrial drives etc.

  • Knowledge of functional safety programming.
  • Background in Material Handling/Conveyor Industry or similar industry.
