Job Description Summary

Working on the existing WMX platform and build outstanding index/benchmark product capabilities and production processes.

Collaborate with the product, research, partnerships, governance and policy, sales strategy, operations, marketing, and other teams to create innovative technical solutions for RBSL.

Work closely with the product delivery team to align delivery priority/timelines with business and client expectations

Coach and train junior software engineers in WMX team to grow into SMEs.

Role Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:

Demonstrates significant knowledge of a single or multiple technologies and advises on design, development and implementation
Advances tools and applications by producing clean and efficient code and reviews others’ code when required

Qualifications & Experience:

Professional qualification or equivalent
In-depth knowledge of at least one popular programming language (Java, C++, Python)
Significant experience in a software development and delivery role
Interest in and understanding of the digital asset domain including current trends, L1 and L2 protocols, centralized and de-centralized applications and services.
Knowledge of blockchain protocols including tokenization standards, smart contracts, wallets and private key custody. Hands on experience preferred .
In-depth knowledge of REST APIs, microservices architecture, and AWS cloud platform, with comprehensive understanding of cloud-based infrastructure
Familiar with database knowledge, better on Postgres, Oracle.
Understanding Design Pattern, UML well
Some experience of Business and Technical Analysis, Quality Assurance, delivery management, and / or Emerging Technology and Governance
Strong problem-solving skills
Advocate for and implement automation to streamline operational processes, reduce manual effort, and improve efficiency

Summary

Fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer to lead a brand-new data engineering team at this tech-savvy algorithmic trading firm. A very hands-on tech lead, you’ll be building a new system for processing and managing daily data that is used company-wide (including corporate actions, fundamentals, and index membership data).

Your focus will be collating the data most critical to the business, now and in the future, to ensure there is a singular, clean, easy-to-access & well-integrated data repository. As the owner of the firm’s daily data, you will be expected to anticipate the business’s needs so that the normalised data schema is minimal yet sufficient.

This firm uses Go for much of their software - prior Go experience is not necessary (but you must be be willing to learn and integrate with the existing software stack as necessary).

Requirements

Several years of experience working with financial data; knowledge of the subtleties of corporate actions will be crucial
Strong and confident programmer in Java, C++, Go, or other statically typed language.

This position is responsible for leading a team working on our FX real-time risk system, driving key deliverables, managing the backlog of work, and contributing technically where needed. Responsibilities
Leadership & Delivery

Lead and mentor a high-performing team working on critical FX real-time risk infrastructure.

Job Purpose:
The Fixed Income Connectivity team globally supports connectivity and routing solutions to ECN platforms and clients. This is achieved using a mixture of Direct FIX API connections and a variety of vendors APIs/Platforms. Strong focus on system performance tuning and experience with low latency programming techniques
Strong academic record, ideally with a Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science,

engineering or related technical or quantitative discipline

Demonstrable success in designing and delivering complex applications
Strong software development fundamentals, data structures, design patterns, Object-Oriented programming, architecture, algorithms, and problem-solving skills
Solid understanding of service architecture and high performance, low latency, and multithreading techniques
Experience of developing market connectivity applications is highly desirable
Prior experience in building e-trading systems is highly desirable
Knowledge of any financial products like Interest Rates, Spread Products, FX, Equities or Futures (e.g. bonds, interest rate swaps, repos) is highly desirable
Technical skills include Java, Spring, FIX, Aeron, Solace, Chronicle, TDD, BDD, KDB, REST, Gradle, Git and Unix Scripting

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Senior Java Engineer with AI proficiency to help build the next generation FTSE Russell Index Platform. This platform underpins the calculation and distribution of FTSE Russell’s global family of indexes and requires advanced engineering, high precision data processing, and deep collaboration across global teams.

This is a deeply technical role focused on designing, building, integrating, and operationalising modern software and AI driven capabilities across internal platforms and client facing products. You will work with innovative technologies, contribute to complex algorithmic design, and drive engineering excellence in a high performance, data intensive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Core Engineering & Platform Delivery

Design, develop, and maintain complex Java and Python applications using modern engineering practices. Build / embed AI powered features into mission critical systems.
Architect and enhance services that support largescale, performance critical index computations.
Collaborate with Product Managers, UX, and engineering teams globally to deliver high quality products.
Lead projects end-to-end through requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and operations.
Build and maintain automated test suites to ensure performance, scalability, and security.
Diagnose production issues, identify root causes, and deliver Level 3 support and fixes.
Conduct peer reviews, provide technical leadership, and mentor junior engineers.

Required Experience & Skills

10+ years of hands-on backend software engineering experience.
Support the organisation’s AI adoption journey. Develop and enhance intelligent solutions using LLMs, LangChain/LangGraph, and agentic AI frameworks.
Establish engineering best practices for safe, scalable, traceable and production ready AI deployments across internal platforms and external product suites.
Strong algorithms, data structures, problem solving skills, and ability to translate business problems into scalable solutions.
Good command of coding standards and Strong understanding of both high level and low level software design
Expertise in:
- Core Java, Python
- Building highly distributed, data intensive systems
- Microservices, REST APIs
- RDBMS (Oracle/SQL Server/Postgres)
- CI/CD tools (Jenkins/GitLab), DevOps automation
- Docker, Kubernetes
- JVM profiling & performance optimisation
Prior exposure to Level 3 production support.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

Experience leading or mentoring a team of engineers.
Experience within financial services or with financial market data.
Familiarity with in-memory caching, Spring Boot, Redis, Kafka.
Experience with BDD frameworks such as Cucumber, JBehave, or Karate.
Background as a Scrum Master or experience running Agile teams.
