Safety systems maintenance engineer including reactive calls

Key tasks

  • Responsible for maintenance as per level 2 and phase 2 reactive calls to sites where customers have called in faulty systems (when senior guy is already on job).

  • Part of the OOH call out rota.

  • To carry enhanced van stock to achieve high 1st fix rate.

Based in Uddingston near Glasgow, Daldowie Treatment Works is one of the largest plants of its type in Europe. For nearly 25 years the plant has focussed on creating wdf pellets from sewage sludge reducing environmental impacts as well as creating a new fuel source replacing the need to burn fossil fuels.

Day to day you’ll support the process by providing timely repairs to breakdowns and carrying out planned maintenance activities including instrumentation calibrations. You’ll ensure that all work is managed and recorded correctly to maintain compliance, inspiring safe ways of working across the site, setting a high standard of EC&I engineering activity, and supporting in rolling out new processes, systems, and ways of working to your colleagues on site.

You’ll be joining a tight knit, dedicated team based on site, who are also part of a larger group with a wide support network.

Who we’re looking for:

You’ll need to have experience in solving problems and being a strong communicator to be able to persuade and influence others.
You should be educated to at least ONC level in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering and should have served a recognised Apprenticeship.

Specifically, you’ll need plant experience in the maintenance, repair and installation of electrical equipment, including but not restricted to, 3 phase motors and associated switchgear, variable speed drives, soft starts, circuit breakers, motor control centres and 3 phase and single-phase distribution systems.

You’ll be able interpret schematic drawings, single line diagrams and PLC ladder logic.

Ideally, you’ll also have process plant experience in the maintenance, repair, installation and calibration of plant instrumentation and control systems including, but not restricted to, systems for the measurement of temperature, pressure, level, flow, oxygen, and ph.

Your duties as the Site Reliability Engineer / Systems Engineer include:

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • Previous experience in a Site Reliability Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Systems Engineer or Operations Engineer role

  • Experience supporting production services at scale within a DevOps or SRE environment

  • Strong working knowledge of ISP-related networking concepts including DNS, DHCP, PPPoE, RADIUS and IPv4/IPv6

  • Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK or Splunk

  • Hands-on experience with containerisation and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes

  • Cloud platform experience, ideally Google Cloud Platform, including automation and scaling practices

  • Strong Linux administration skills with scripting capability in Bash, Python or similar

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and source control tools such as GitHub Actions

  • Understanding of security frameworks and operational resilience best practices
