System Engineer Role Description

LU Asset Performance Delivery (APD) is responsible for the maintenance and renewal of the asset base that makes up the London Underground transport network including Rolling Stock, Signalling and Track assets, civils infrastructure, stations & premises, building services and station systems and the power network.

The next phase in LU Engineering’s activities to modernise how LU APD manages and maintains their assets commenced in April 2025 with the start of a five year programme of work. This sees LU APD move from making changes to realise short term financial savings to one that is more ambitious in scope, to deliver systemic change to optimise the maintenance intervention on the assets, across the operate-maintain phase of the asset lifecycle.

We are seeking high calibre System Engineers with experience of system engineering across the entirety of the asset lifecycle, to play a pivotal role in leading the development and delivery of this Engineering initiative. Job Title: Foot Mobile Maintenance Engineer

Job Purpose:
The Foot Mobile Maintenance Engineer will carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and building services support across a portfolio of sites within walking distance of Oxford Street and surrounding areas. The role requires a strong understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems, with the ability to respond quickly to faults, maintain plant equipment, and uphold excellent service standards across client buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out routine PPM tasks across mechanical and electrical plant in accordance with site schedules and asset lists.
• Complete reactive maintenance and breakdown tasks, proactively identifying areas for improvement, including fabric-related jobs and concessionary store requests.
• Oversee subcontractor activities, ensuring they meet contractual requirements and operate safely while on site.
• Operate the Permit to Work system in line with BGIS Quality, Health & Safety procedures and client expectations.
• Diagnose and remedy plant faults and defects quickly to maintain serviceable equipment.
• Ensure appropriate spares are available for both maintenance and reactive works; provide parts lists and estimated timelines for remedial tasks.
• Complete all required paperwork for reactive, PPM, and breakdown works and submit promptly to the contract administrator.
• Prepare and use Method Statements and Risk Assessments to ensure safe working practices.
• Maintain strong working relationships with BGIS staff, subcontractors, and client representatives.
• Maintain a safe and healthy working environment, including correct use of uniform and PPE at all times.
• Present a professional and positive image of BGIS to clients at all times.
• Ensure plant rooms remain locked, secure, and kept clean and tidy.
• Supervise and monitor subcontractor works during maintenance activity.
• Complete all assigned tasks in line with Health & Safety requirements.
• Maintain awareness and compliance with contractual KPIs and SLAs.
• Keep the Computer-Based Maintenance System (e.g., Maximo) up to date, ensuring accurate closure of PPM and reactive tickets.
• Operate the Permit to Work System in accordance with BGIS or approved client processes.
• Carry out any additional tasks as required by the site management team.
• Ensure engineering teams produce near-miss reports, dynamic risk assessments, and detailed site activity records, escalating any non-compliance.
• Proactively check and ensure compliance with the LOTO system.
• Monitor and control building environmental conditions using the BMS to maintain acceptable internal conditions.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Must hold a Level 3 qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (e.g., C&G, NVQ, BTEC).
• Experience in building services, HVAC, mechanical or electrical maintenance.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across M&E systems.
• Good working knowledge of building management systems (BMS) and permit-to-work processes.
• Experience working in a client-facing environment.

The Pump Engineer will report to the National Engineering Manager and working with a team of colleagues within the Service and Technical Support team. • The Pump Engineer will carry out visible and technical assessments of breakdowns and work to be completed on all equipment.
• Ensure all task-related documentation is completed upon conclusion of each service activity, including obtaining customer signatures on manned sites. Submit all completed documentation to the office daily via remote access.
• Effective communication with our internal service department is paramount to ensure seamless coordination, timely updates.
• Issue point of work risk assessments and method statements.
• Carry out commissioning, maintenance, installation, and warranty work on required products
• Adhere to all health and safety requirements of they have and any sites being visited.
• Complete mandatory company health & safety training courses, where required.
• Ensure that any defects to equipment or tools are reported immediately to the Service office
• Participate in any multi-skilling programme to broaden both your own individual skills and experience and provide flexibility for service operations
• Take full ownership and responsibility for all service tasks undertaken, ensuring they are completed to a high standard, within agreed timeframes, and in alignment with company policies and customer expectations
• Impart technical advice to the client or obtain further advice and report back to the client.
