A vacancy has arisen for an Electrical Controls & Reliability Engineer to join our clients Maintenance & Reliability team based in Stirling.
Reporting to the Maintenance & Reliability Manager, this is a critical role focused on protecting plant assets, improving uptime, and driving reliability through intelligent use of controls, automation, and data.
This is not simply a PLC programming role. It’s about using automation, protection logic, and performance data to prevent failure before it happens.
The Role
You will take ownership of the reliability performance of control systems across site — ensuring PLCs, SCADA, drives, instrumentation, and safety systems are configured to protect equipment and optimise output.
You’ll work closely with Maintenance, Operations, and Process Engineering to eliminate recurring faults, stabilise performance, and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Optimise PLC, SCADA, drives, and safety systems to protect equipment
Analyse trends and historical data to identify degradation and early failure indicators
Implement engineered changes to improve uptime and reduce micro-stops
Maintain high-integrity control loops and instrumentation accuracy
Lead and support structured RCA investigations
Apply methodologies such as 5-Why, FMEA, and Fault Tree Analysis
Develop corrective action plans and ensure full implementation
Utilise historian systems, SCADA, PLC diagnostics, and CMMS data
Build dashboards and analytical views to support decision-making
Maintain and troubleshoot PLCs (Siemens / Rockwell), SCADA, HMIs, industrial networks, VSDs, and safety PLCs
Work closely with Production to optimise setpoints and alarm limits
Provide advanced troubleshooting support for complex faults
Support PPM optimisation and predictive maintenance initiatives
What We’re Looking For
Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, Controls/Automation, or Instrumentation
Strong controls and automation experience in heavy industry or continuous process environments
Proficiency with Siemens and Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLC platforms
Solid understanding of instrumentation, electrical protection, and safeguarding
Experience using historian data and CMMS systems to analyse equipment performance
Proven track record in RCA and reliability engineering

The Plant, Protection and Control Engineer plays a vital role within the design team. You will be responsible for the design delivery of substation plant, equipment, and protection systems across a whole range of electrical infrastructures as well as new connection projects in both the distribution and transmission sectors.
You will be responsible for the detailed design and procurement of substation plant including, switchgear, power transformers, voltage control equipment, protection systems, protective relays, connectors, busbars, SCADA based telemetry, as well as all the associated substation build activities throughout the lifecycle of the project.
Your primary role is to ensure substation infrastructure is correctly identified and procured, in a timely manner. You will achieve this ensuring the detailed preparation and delivery of functional specifications, equipment schedules and associated scheme drawings. You’ll provide ongoing technical support and advice on procurement of plant and equipment, by liaising directly with suppliers and manufacturers, to order plant and equipment, as per client specification and approved designs.
Here are some of the activities you will get involved with…
Responsible for assessing client project requirements and producing detailed plant and equipment and protection specifications.
Creating appropriate system designs ensuring compliance with applicable specifications and tender documentation, coordination with manufactures and suppliers.
Assist with tendering activities and provide regular technical guidance for any proposed schemes, as may be required.
Prepare site layouts and schematics, for multi-staged substations construction build projects.
Manage external plant and equipment manufacturers, design consultants, and oversee designs outputs to ensure compatibility with the electro-technical requirements.
Liaise with internal and external design team, clients, manufacturers, and consultancies to produce accurate designs within timescales indicated and in line with deliverables.
Produce detailed electrical control and protection schematic drawings for construction of large electrical infrastructure schemes.
Produce electro-technical drawings, plant and material procurement lists, and wiring diagrams for control for protection and control systems.
Preparation of functional specifications and providing advice on procurement of plant and equipment and liaising with manufacturers to order plants as per client specification.
Be able to produce detailed specifications for high voltage plant, equipment and ancillary plant and equipment associated with high voltage substations.
Review equipment manufacturers’ proposals and liaise with equipment manufacturers to ensure equipment suitability is in line with the proposed design.
Production of equipment schedules in line with relevant IEC, DNO, ENA, IDNO and client-based specifications.
Development and review of single line diagrams, P&C block diagrams, & connection diagrams.
Production of AC and DC schematic drawings, control and protection, cable block diagrams, SCADA and multicore cable and termination schedules.
Relay setting calculations for 11kV, 33kV, 132kV and above 132kV voltage levels including Transmission Lines, Transformers, Busbars, Bus-couplers and Bus-Sections etc.
IED/Numerical Protection Relay LEDs, Binary Input, Binary Output and PSL/CFC configurations for Siemens Siprotec-5/Reyrolle, GE Micom and ABB etc. make manufacturers.
110VDC Battery Loading Calculations.
CT/VT sizing calculations and adequacy check.
To maintain an electro-technical and commercial dialogue with suppliers and customer.

A proficient understanding of electricity industry & regulatory standards, policies, and their application to the role.
A good understanding of electrical plant, transformer, protection, relays and control and construction disciplines and current ENA, BS and IEC electrotechnical engineering standards, to ensure full application and compliance requirements can be achieved.
A strong electrical knowledge within the contestable and non-contestable connections sides of the market and should be able to demonstrate a proven track record working within projects such as substation construction, cabling, overhead lines, while being fully conversant with working on switchgear, protection, control and major designs of electrical plant including transformers.

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior or Principal RF Engineer to support the design and development of advanced RF and microwave hardware within a leading defence technology environment.
The successful candidate will work across the full hardware lifecycle, from system concept and detailed design through prototyping, verification, integration, and production support. This role involves developing high-performance RF PCB and module designs while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex integration challenges.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver RF and microwave hardware designs across the full product lifecycle.
• Develop multifunctional RF PCB and module designs using modern RF technologies.
• Capture requirements and perform detailed circuit design, simulation, and verification.
• Design and implement test prototypes and validation activities for RF hardware.
• Conduct design reviews and produce high-quality technical documentation.
• Prepare manufacturing data packs and support production and subcontract engineering activities.
• Collaborate with systems, electronics, and test engineers to resolve integration issues.
• Debug and diagnose issues in RF hardware and test equipment.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
• 5+ years’ experience in RF / microwave circuit design and analysis.
• Strong understanding of microwave engineering principles and electromagnetic theory.
• Experience using RF test equipment, including network analysers, spectrum analysers, and RF sources.
• Proficiency with RF design and simulation tools such as ADS, AWR, CST, HFSS, or Mentor.
• Ability to debug failing RF hardware or test systems.
Desirable
• Microwave PCB materials and RF layout techniques.
• RF subsystem or synthesiser design (DDS / PLL).
• GaAs / GaN MMIC applications.
• RF down-converter or digitiser design.
• Experience with EM simulation and modelling.
• Knowledge of RF lab measurement techniques including vector network analysis.

This is a newly created role driven by continued growth and increased cloud adoption. Responsibilities:
To be considered, you’ll ideally have experience across Azure and Microsoft 365 security, along with a solid grounding in infrastructure and network principles (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, IDS/IPS, VLANs). Experience with Active Directory / Entra ID, server hardening, patching, and security tooling would be advantageous.
Exposure to frameworks such as ISO27001, Cyber Essentials Plus or OWASP would also be beneficial, as would Azure certifications (Security Engineer Associate, Solutions Architect, etc.) or broader security certifications such as CISSP, CISM or Security+.
This role can be based in either Edinburgh or Glasgow, with occasional travel between client offices as required.
