As a COBOL Software Engineer, you’ll join one of DWP Digital’s specialist engineering teams responsible for maintaining, modernising and transforming the core platforms that keep vital payments flowing to over 15 million people every year.

These systems - built using Microfocus COBOL - are at the heart of DWP’s operational stability, and your work will directly impact the availability, accuracy and resilience of services relied upon by millions.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

• Strong, hands-on experience working with Microfocus COBOL, especially building or maintaining large-scale systems.

You and your role

As a COBOL Software Engineer, you’ll be central to maintaining and modernising the platforms that deliver over £150bn in payments every year. These services are some of the largest and most important in the UK, and you’ll be responsible for ensuring they remain stable, secure and resilient.

You’ll work within our delivery teams, helping to lead refactoring work across some of our major COBOL applications, modernising how they operate today and preparing them for the strategic technology shift DWP is undertaking over the next decade.

This role has a strong leadership and development focus. You’ll coach and mentor junior engineers, support those progressing through our Engineering Academy, and help grow the next generation of specialist COBOL talent. You’ll also provide 3rd-line support when needed, resolving complex technical issues that require deep system understanding.

Experian’s Offensive Security team charges itself with improving the organisation’s security posture through clarifying risk and verifying the efficacy of our technical, people, physical and process controls from an attacker perspective. The team perform regular Adversary Simulation (Red Team) testing and a range of Ad-Hoc and Tactical Assessments based on changes to the threat landscape and organisational needs.

To succeed in this role, you have breadth and depth of knowledge in security. This knowledge will include operating systems, networking and protocols, firewalls, databases, and middleware applications. Additionally, you will have expertise in forensics, scripting and programming, vulnerabilities, and the usage of GenAI / social engineering techniques.

This is a Hybrid, Nottingham or London based role (40% in office) reporting to the Head of Offensive Security.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with other teams within the Cyber Fusion Centre and the wider organisation. This ensures that we understand and articulate Cyber Risks in a threat-informed manner. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the successful defense of the organisation.
• Support Offensive Security’s engagement at multiple organizational levels, from senior leaders to technical analysts to help improve risk understanding and verify the efficacy of remediation/mitigative actions.
• Participate in performing physical exploitation, network exploitation and social engineering assessments against authorized targets.
• Use CyberThreat Intelligence, Offensive Security Research, previous Adversary Simulation (Red Team) findings and internal risk intelligence to develop test cases demonstrating TTP effectiveness against Experian’s control environment.

What your core background is

The Role: ArcGIS Monitor Specialist

Your responsibilities: ArcGIS Monitor Setup & Configuration

• Install, configure, and maintain ArcGIS Monitor software.
• Integrate ArcGIS Monitor with ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Server, and other Enterprise components.
• Ensure proper connectivity and data flow between monitoring tools and GIS infrastructure.

Cloud Infrastructure Monitoring

• Track performance and resource utilization of cloud-based GIS environments.
• Implement monitoring strategies for virtual machines, storage, and network components.
• Configure dashboards for real-time visibility of system health.

Alerting & Notifications

• Set up automated alerts for critical events, performance degradation, and system failures.
• Define thresholds and escalation procedures for proactive issue resolution.

Customer Engagement

• Gather and analyze customer requirements for monitoring and reporting.
• Provide technical guidance and best practices for system optimization.
• Work independently to design and implement solutions aligned with client needs.

Performance Analysis & Reporting

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong experience with ArcGIS Enterprise 11.5 (Portal, Server, Data Store).

Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we’d like you to have experience in some of the following:

• Ability to translate complex data sets into actionable insights.
• Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and statistical software (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
• Communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong analytical and statistical skills.
• Familiarity with HRIS systems and data governance principles.
• Knowledge of Saba, Workday, Oracle or equivalent HRIS technologies.
