Buro Happold is an international, integrated engineering, design, and advisory consultancy with over 45 years of experience operating in nearly 40 offices worldwide. We deliver creative, value‑led building, city, and infrastructure solutions that respond to complex challenges in the built environment. Our work spans structural, sustainability, environmental, digital transformation, advisory, and more.
We believe in collaboration, innovation, human wellbeing, sustainability, and carrying out work that benefits people, places, and the planet.
As a DevOps Engineer at Buro Happold, you will bridge the gap between software development, infrastructure, operations, and security. You will be instrumental in automating, scaling, and maintaining the systems and toolchains that support our digital platforms — both internal tools (engineering, modelling, analysis, project collaboration, etc.) and systems that support operations. You will work closely with Development, IT, Digital Transformation, and Specialist Engineering teams to ensure our systems are reliable, secure, and efficient.
Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support fast, reliable deployment of software and services.
Provision, configure, and manage cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and/or on‑prem where needed.
Automate infrastructure management and operations with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
Monitor system performance, establish observability (logging, metrics, alerting), and respond to incidents.
Implement and manage containerisation / orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) for scalable services.
Work with security and compliance teams to embed best practices (e.g. secrets management, vulnerability scanning, network policies).
Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary engineering, digital & modelling teams to ensure tools and environments support their workflows (e.g. large compute jobs, modelling, simulation).
Drive cost optimisation for infrastructure usage (cloud spend, resource allocation).
Support disaster recovery, backups, high availability, and scaling strategies.
