Maintenance Engineer
Optima Consultancy Services

TECH-AGNOSTIC ROLE

Maintenance Engineer | Horwich | Electrical Bias | £40k - £45k

Looking for a maintenance role where the kit is modern, the problems are real, and you are trusted to fix them properly?

This is a hands-on Maintenance Engineerrole at Astemos Bolton manufacturing site. Youll be supporting high-volume, PLC controlled production lines with a strong mix of electrical fault-finding, mechanical intervention, robotics, and continuous improvement.

This is not a stand by the line and reset alarms job. Youll be expected to think, diagnose, and improve.

What the role actually involves

Youll spend most of your time:

  • Fault-finding on PLC controlled production equipment
  • Diagnosing breakdowns across electrical, mechanical, robotic and control systems
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance and planned interventions
  • Supporting improvements and modifications to existing lines
  • Getting involved in the installation and commissioning of new equipment
  • Working closely with production to keep output where it needs to be

The environment is fast-paced and automated. When something stops, youre expected to understand why, not just get it running again.

Ideally you’ll probably be time-served with NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Electrical Engineering (or similar). Your experience of maintaining PLC controlled equipment will definitely come in handy, along with any exposure to you’ve had to robotics. Other than that, a good mechanical understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics would be beneficial.

Salary, shifts and benefits

Id anticipate the salary falling in the region of £45,000. This will be based on a three-shift pattern (6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm / 10pm-6am, 38 hours per week) due to production ramping up in the last quarter.

Weekday overtime is paid at single time, Saturdays at time and a half, and Sundays at double time.

In addition, youll benefit from a solid overall package including enhanced pension contributions, 7.5% bonus, generous holiday allowance (25 days) and EV Salary Sacrifice option. They also look at incrementally increasing salaries year on year. Clearly it’s not a guarantee but there’s been a 5% increase agreed this year, for context.

About the Company

Astemo designs and manufactures advanced mobility solutions across electrification, autonomous driving and connectivity. The Bolton site forms part of a wider international group and is entering a significant growth phase, supporting major OEM programmes.

The culture here is the real reason that people tend to stick around. They’ve been recently externally accredited as a “Great Place to Work” and have given every manager in the business Mental Health First Aid training as part of their commitment to promoting wellbeing among their people.

Interested?

You dont need a glossy four-page CV. A clear overview of your maintenance experience, the type of equipment youve worked on, and your qualifications is enough.

If you’re looking for somewhere to start your career, or at an earlier stage - don’t be discouraged to apply as there may be an opportunity here for you too!

So youre aware, your application will be reviewed directly by the hiring team
