TECH-AGNOSTIC ROLE

MCS Group are delighted to be working with a global technology company with a large engineering presence in Belfast. Due to continued growth, they are looking for an Engineering Manager to join their team.

This role would suit someone who has been a strong technical engineer and is now looking to step into a management position. You should have some mentoring or leadership experience, supporting other engineers and helping guide technical direction, and be keen to move into a more formal people leadership role.

The company operates internationally across multiple regions and works with major global brands across financial services and retail. You’ll lead a senior technical team responsible for platform and DevOps capabilities, helping drive engineering best practices, support platform modernisation, and enable teams across the business to build and scale effectively.

VP of DevOps

Leader
£100,000

VP of DevOps (Hybrid Infrastructure, Global Scale, UK/IE)

Salary: Up to £150,000
Location: UK or Ireland preferred (Remote)
Type: Permanent

We are partnered with a global technology business in the payments and financial services space that is entering a major scale phase across Europe and North America.

The company has grown quickly through acquisitions and is now at the point where they need a senior DevOps leader to unify how software is delivered and how infrastructure is run across multiple teams and environments.

This is a high-impact, senior role with direct ownership of DevOps strategy and execution across a global engineering organisation.

The Opportunity

You will take ownership of DevOps across multiple engineering groups and drive a more consistent, scalable approach to:

  • Software delivery and CI/CD standards
  • Infrastructure as Code and configuration automation
  • Tooling decisions and rollout across teams
  • Platform reliability, engineering velocity and operational maturity

This is not a “PowerPoint-only” leadership role. Leadership in this business remains hands-on and practical. You will be expected to lead from the front and stay close to the engineering problems, while still operating at a strategic level.

You will manage a DevOps / platform function of engineers globally, with an expected split of around 65-70% leadership and 30-35% technical involvement.

What You’ll Be Working With

The environment is intentionally pragmatic and engineering-led:

  • Hybrid infrastructure (on-prem and data centre footprint is significant, alongside cloud)
  • Heavy focus on automation and repeatability
  • Infrastructure as Code is standard for deployments
  • Configuration management is central (Ansible-style approaches)
  • Docker is used where needed
  • Not a Kubernetes-first environment - the focus is on simplicity and reliability
  • Major tooling improvements underway (including modernising CI/CD and source control workflows)

There is also a strong push internally around AI enablement - equipping engineering teams with tools, licences, and training to use AI properly in day-to-day work.

What They’re Looking For

This role suits someone who can combine real technical depth with leadership maturity.

Must-haves

  • Senior DevOps / platform leadership experience (Head of / Director / VP level)
  • Strong technical background - you can comfortably engage at Principal Engineer level when needed
  • Proven ability to set a DevOps roadmap, standardise practices, and lead change across teams
  • Experience operating across hybrid environments (cloud plus on-prem / data centre)
  • Strong automation mindset - IaC, configuration, CI/CD, observability and reliability thinking

Nice to have

  • Experience integrating or unifying platforms after M&A / acquisitions
  • Exposure to multi-region or globally distributed engineering organisations
  • Strong stakeholder management across security, operations, engineering and exec teams

Why This Role

If you enjoy stepping into complex environments and leaving them cleaner, faster and more consistent, this will suit you. You will have proper ownership, backing from senior leadership, and the chance to build a modern DevOps function that enables the wider engineering org to move quicker.
