Your skills and experiences:

  • Experience of systems design, integration & test
  • An understanding of Systems and Product lifecycles from concept through to delivery
  • An understanding of a range of Engineering disciplines (Software, Mechanical, Electrical)
  • An understanding of Radar Systems is desirable, although not essential if other complementary skills demonstrate a capacity to understand new technologies quickly and effectively
  • Good inter-personal skills with the ability to communicate to all levels within the organisation and externally
  • Experience of presenting both technical and non-technical information in a formal setting
  • Degree (or equivalent) qualified in an engineering or science discipline

JOB PURPOSE:

To be responsible for supporting engineering aspects of the procurement, safety management, and bringing into service of relevant ATC Systems. Typically, these will be minor / less complex systems and projects, focusing on simpler systems or specific equipment. This System Engineer position will be working in our Primary Surveillance Radar (PSR) and Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) team, so knowledge of these systems is desirable.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Project Delivery

  • Negotiate and coordinate project requirements and timelines with stakeholders.
  • Produce technical specifications for minor systems and support major system specifications.
  • Support production of engineering estimates for project bids.
  • Advise and assist with tender evaluations and assess technical solutions.
  • Contribute to project planning in line with delivery milestones.
  • Act as Change Lead for minor projects, ensuring change assurance activities are completed.
  • Manage day-to-day project activities including installation and commissioning.
  • Perform acceptance testing and produce test reports.
  • Produce and review maintenance and operating procedures.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are met according to the project plan.

Undertake the Engineering Authority (EA) role for designated systems.

SCOPE OF JOB:

  • The post holder is required to contribute to delivery of multiple projects at any one time involving different project teams and locations. They may also be required to fulfil an EA role. The post holder is expected to resolve conflicting demands on their time and their direct reports, in consultation with their line management.
  • There is little requirement for strategic planning in this post. However, the post holder is likely to play a role in advising managers on issues which may affect strategy.
  • The post holder may be called on to advise and assist operational engineers to restore equipment into service. In support of this the post holder may be asked to attend airport sites at short notice.
  • Where required, and where agreed, the post holder will deliver structured training and / or carry out structured Competency Assessment Checks within their field of expertise and in accordance with NATS procedures.
  • The post holder will be required to undertake tasks within an operational environment therefore will need to demonstrate suitable behaviours.
  • The post holder may be required to provide out of hours on-call support for specific systems as designated by the Head of section.

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Professional engineering qualification to Higher National Certificate (Level 4 or SQF Level 7) as a minimum Electronics, Telecommunications or Computer Science or other relevant Engineering qualification discipline.

In lieu of the above qualifications the candidate will be required to demonstrate one of the following alternative criteria:

Relevant lower-level engineering qualifications such as an Apprenticeship coupled with demonstrable engineering experience in a relevant field (May include but not limited to: RAF, Navy, Rail, other Safety Critical environment).Evidence of substantial experience gained in a relevant transferable environment (such as ATSEP) gained over a significant period.

  • Experience of supporting systems and equipment similar to those used by ANSP’s such as RAF, Navy, Rail, other Safety Critical environment and experience in maintenance engineering on this type of equipment.
  • Shall demonstrate an understanding of safety critical systems and the impact they may have within our operational environment.

Leidos is seeking an experienced Technical Lead (Systems Engineering) to play a pivotal role on a critical national infrastructure Programme, one of Leidos UK’s flagship delivery programmes supporting a high‑profile government customer.

We’re working with a fast-growing UK SaaS technology company that builds data-driven digital products used by commercial teams to better understand and engage with their customers. They are now looking for an experienced Technical Lead Full Stack Developer to play a key role in shaping and delivering their next generation of customer-facing platforms.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you’ll be involved from early design through to production delivery, working with a modern cloud-based stack and deploying to live environments on a daily basis.

The Role

  • Lead technical delivery across a high-performing development squad (10+)
  • Contribute to solution design, system architecture and domain modelling
  • Build proof-of-concepts and spike complex or uncertain areas of work
  • Break down requirements into deliverable epics and user stories alongside product and initiative managers
  • Develop and deliver production-ready code across the full stack
  • Ensure high standards of quality, maintainability, performance and security
  • Support and improve live systems once deployed
  • Influence technical direction, tooling and best practice across the wider engineering function

Tech Environment

About You

  • Strong full stack development experience (ideally 10+ years)
  • 5+ years of TypeScript experience
  • Solid Node.js Experience
  • Background in system design and scalable architectures
  • Experience building large, production SaaS platforms
  • A clean-code mindset (SOLID principles, design patterns, testable code)
  • Experience working in mature CI/CD and continuous deployment environments
  • A commercial mindset when designing and delivering software
  • Excellent collaboration skills and confidence working with stakeholders
  • Interest in using AI to accelerate and improve software development
  • A passion for performance, security and engineering best practice
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent real-world experience

They are now looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to play a key role in shaping and delivering their next generation of customer-facing platforms.

You will be working with our modern tech stack (NestJS/NodeJS, Vue, Redis, SQL Server and Snowflake), able to get down into the code when required to critique and drive the quality of the code created, as well as drive efficiencies in speed at which it is created.

This is a role that would suit someone with a very strong development background, with expertise in creating clean code, following DevOps practises and with strong interpersonal skills, who has moved into a management career path.

Skills & Experience:

  • Significant experience in a SaaS environment of rapid and efficient software development with clean code, SOLID principals and design patterns, and building the competency for this in teams.

  • Experience of monitoring engineering performance and driving continuous improvement of performance.

  • A strong general aptitude for programming and problem solving. You’ll need to pick up new tools and techniques quickly and use them to solve problems.

  • Significant previous experience as a hands on software engineer working with mature DevOps practises, and to have maintained the skills required to get down into the code when required.

  • A strong understanding of what is required to create and operate maintainable systems.

  • Experience with automated testing and quality assurance

  • An understanding of how to build systems that perform well at scale

  • Enthusiasm for building secure systems and implementing security best practices

We are currently recruiting for a Maximo Application Manager on a permanent basis to join an organisation based in Portsmouth that is committed to improving the way it manages and maximises its assets through technology.

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a critical enterprise application, influence how Maximo is used across the business and lead meaningful transformation and improvement initiatives. You will work closely with a wide range of stakeholders and have the chance to shape the future direction of asset management systems.
Your new roleAs Maximo Application Manager, you will take full end-to-end ownership of the IBM Maximo application, ensuring it supports the organisation’s asset management strategy and wider operational goals. This is a senior application management role combining technical leadership, stakeholder engagement and people management. You will oversee the implementation, configuration and ongoing optimisation of Maximo, ensuring high availability, performance, security and compliance at all times.
You will act as the primary point of contact for Maximo across the business, working closely with operations, engineering and maintenance teams to understand asset management requirements and translate these into effective technical solutions. The role will involve managing system integrations, data quality, reporting and analytics, including the use of AI, as well as leading system upgrades and enhancements.
You will liaise with IBM and third party vendors on support, licencing and system improvements, while also leading and mentoring a Maximo Analyst. In addition, you will manage change control, system documentation and governance standards, ensuring Maximo is used consistently and in line with agreed policies. The role includes leading application-related projects, developing delivery plans, managing timelines and budgets, and ensuring successful outcomes with minimal impact to users. You will also provide out-of-hours or on-call support as part of a rota and act as an escalation point for Maximo related issues, alongside providing management and support for other applications where required.
What you’ll need to succeedTo be successful in this role, you will have strong experience in Maximo application management and systems support within a complex IT environment. You will have a solid understanding of asset management systems, integrations and data governance, alongside experience of managing application lifecycles and delivering system enhancements or projects.

You will be an effective communicator, comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and confident in translating business requirements into practical system solutions. People management or mentoring experience is useful, (but not essential, so this opportunity could provide your first step into management),
as is the ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt within defined parameters.
