Role Overview

You will lead and manage engineering shifts across a large 24-hour operation, providing clear direction and hands on leadership to multi disciplined engineering teams to support internal and external customers across two large distribution centres. Your focus will be on delivering both qualitative and quantitative business objectives, achieving KPI targets, and driving continuous improvement in both engineering performance and people.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and motivate a team of multi-skilled engineers, service engineers, and assistants to deliver planned and reactive maintenance in line with KPIs.
• Provide technical expertise and hands-on fault-finding support across a wide range of automated equipment.
• Manage third-party contractors and ensure project and service KPIs are met.
• Handle all aspects of people management including performance reviews, disciplinaries, and absence management.
• Drive engagement and effective communication across the engineering team.
• Support and deputise for the Site Engineering Manager when required.
• Plan and coordinate all engineering activity through the CMMS system, ensuring PPMs and reactive work are completed to standard.
• Collaborate with Operations, HR, H&S, and other site functions to maximise uptime and resource efficiency.

About You

• Proven background leading multi-disciplined engineering teams within an automated warehouse or FMCG environment.
• Time-served Engineer with a minimum of HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong working knowledge of SCADA and PLC systems (Siemens preferred).
• Experienced in using CMMS systems (Agility or similar).
• Health & Safety qualified (IOSH or equivalent).
• Excellent communicator with the ability to influence across all levels.
• Capable of making sound decisions under pressure and prioritising effectively.
• Confident working at height and understanding of relevant safety protocols (training can be provided).
• Results-driven, flexible, and passionate about developing people and processes.

Key Responsibilities Automation Strategy & Capital Equipment Identify opportunities for automation across fabrication and welding processes Develop technical specifications for robotic welding cells, CNC fabrication equipment and automated handling systems Support capital equipment procurement activities Carry out cost-benefit analysis and ROI calculations for automation investment projects Commissioning & Integration Lead installation and site acceptance testing of new robotic systems Work closely with maintenance teams to develop preventative maintenance plans for automated equipment Support the integration of automation systems into existing production environments Programming & Technical Optimisation Develop and optimise robot programs for complex welding applications Utilise offline programming tools to reduce production downtime during new product introduction Troubleshoot PLC logic and HMI interfaces to ensure reliable system communication Continuous Improvement & Production Support Analyse production data to identify opportunities to improve cycle times and efficiency Apply Lean manufacturing principles to reduce scrap and improve process capability Support operators with training around robot operation, intervention and safety protocols Coordinate cross-functional teams to resolve manufacturing issues using structured problem solving Process Development & Governance Develop and maintain SOPs and technical documentation for automated processes Conduct risk assessments and FMEA activities to ensure system reliability and safety Ensure automated systems comply with CE / UKCA requirements and PUWER regulations Support early-stage product development through design-for-manufacture input Requirements Degree or HND in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar discipline Proven experience working in an automation or robotics engineering role within manufacturing Experience programming industrial robots and working with PLC control systems Experience delivering automation or capital equipment projects within production environments Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and process optimisation techniques Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret production data and drive improvements Experience working within engineering or manufacturing environments Good understanding of health, safety and regulatory requirements within industrial automation Desirable Project management qualification such as PRINCE2, PMP or Agile Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification Experience supporting new product introduction activities Knowledge of large-scale automated manufacturing systems What’s on Offer Competitive salary depending on experience Opportunity to work on large-scale automation projects within a complex engineering environment Long-term career development opportunities Involvement in cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and continuous improvement initiatives INDWIN Our clients and their customers come from diverse backgrounds and so do we. Our project team is based in Manchester within the Process Automation division at Siemens. The team is a group of expert engineers responsible for producing high quality software solutions on time and within budget for high profile global customers.

Your role will deliver PCS7 solutions to customers that cover a variety of industry areas that may vary from Green technologies to Pharma, Chemical, Food, Manufacturing, and bespoke technology areas.

This role will report to the Engineering Manager and be responsible for project delivery, and leading a small technical project team

You will create impact by:

• Technical production of high-quality software solutions on time and within budget.
• Be involved in the writing/co-ordination of Functional Design Specifications and associated documents.
• Be involved in the testing of all software produced and configuration of systems to satisfy the client’s application.
• Working within a project team, delegating tasks and ensure that all activities are co-ordinated with the designated Lead Engineer & Project Manager.
• Working with a diverse multicultural team that are willing to develop and grow through shared experience and knowledge.
• Deliver projects that support the DEGREE strategic goals of Siemens

Your success is grounded in:

• A good all-round knowledge and significant experience in PCS7 control engineering.
• A development path aligned with functional safety technology
• A qualification or equivalent experience in the process control field of work.
• Experience of software & engineering in the process control with demonstrable experience of PCS7 preferably on Version 9 and above.
• Experience of writing technical documents.
• Be highly motivated and work on their own initiative and within a team.

Good to have but not essential experience as learning pathways are available:

• Functional safety experience aligned with IEC 61511/61508
• Cyber security experience aligned with IEC 62443
