Role Overview

You will lead and manage engineering shifts across a large 24-hour operation, providing clear direction and hands on leadership to multi disciplined engineering teams to support internal and external customers across two large distribution centres. Your focus will be on delivering both qualitative and quantitative business objectives, achieving KPI targets, and driving continuous improvement in both engineering performance and people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate a team of multi-skilled engineers, service engineers, and assistants to deliver planned and reactive maintenance in line with KPIs.
  • Provide technical expertise and hands-on fault-finding support across a wide range of automated equipment.
  • Manage third-party contractors and ensure project and service KPIs are met.
  • Handle all aspects of people management including performance reviews, disciplinaries, and absence management.
  • Drive engagement and effective communication across the engineering team.
  • Support and deputise for the Site Engineering Manager when required.
  • Plan and coordinate all engineering activity through the CMMS system, ensuring PPMs and reactive work are completed to standard.
  • Collaborate with Operations, HR, H&S, and other site functions to maximise uptime and resource efficiency.

  • Maintain and audit compliance with Health & Safety, statutory requirements, and company procedures.

About You

  • Proven background leading multi-disciplined engineering teams within an automated warehouse or FMCG environment.
  • Time-served Engineer with a minimum of HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong working knowledge of SCADA and PLC systems (Siemens preferred).
  • Experienced in using CMMS systems (Agility or similar).
  • Health & Safety qualified (IOSH or equivalent).
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to influence across all levels.
  • Capable of making sound decisions under pressure and prioritising effectively.
  • Confident working at height and understanding of relevant safety protocols (training can be provided).

As a COBOL Software Engineer, you’ll be central to maintaining and modernising the platforms that deliver over £150bn in payments every year. These services are some of the largest and most important in the UK, and you’ll be responsible for ensuring they remain stable, secure and resilient.

  • Lead the technical delivery and operational support for our Fraud and Financial Crime Platforms (Feedzai and Netreveal) working closely with Fincrime and Fraud Ops, compliance teams to turn business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Build and manage a team of platform engineers and support specialists, developing their technical skills and domain knowledge in fraud detection and AML transaction monitoring.
  • Own the relationship with our platform vendors, influencing the strategic direction for the capabilities needed for our business.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing QHSE & Technical Compliance Manager to lead the quality and compliance functions for a market-leading vehicle bodybuilding operation.

Working closely with production, engineering, and leadership teams, you will embed a “safety-first” quality culture into every stage of the build-from fabrication and welding through to final vehicle approval.

The Role (Day-to-Day)

  • Policy & Compliance: Oversee all QHSE policies and procedures across two manufacturing sites.
  • Technical Standards: Ensure all vehicle bodybuilding and modifications strictly adhere to Type Approval (IVA, VCA, DVSA) and industry regulations.
  • Systems Management: Develop and maintain ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 frameworks.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) to drive positive change.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies, clients, and suppliers regarding certifications.
  • Safety & Training: Monitor COSHH, PUWER, and LOLER requirements while delivering QHSE training to staff.

  • Industry Experience: A proven track record in QHSE or Compliance within vehicle bodybuilding, automotive, or heavy engineering industries.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong awareness of Type Approval (IVA/VCA) and industry build standards.
  • Communication: The ability to confidently liaise with internal teams and external regulatory bodies.
  • Proactive Approach: A “safety-first” mindset with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead by example.

  • Experience of software & engineering in the process control with demonstrable experience of PCS7 preferably on Version 9 and above.
  • Experience of writing technical documents.
  • Be highly motivated and work on their own initiative and within a team.

Good to have but not essential experience as learning pathways are available:

  • Functional safety experience aligned with IEC 61511/61508
  • Cyber security experience aligned with IEC 62443
