Job Title: Dual Fuel Engineer

At Orion Smart Metering, were proud to work with some of the UKs biggest energy suppliers including two of the Big Five as well as the UKs #1 metering provider. Were now expanding our team and are looking for experienced Dual Fuel Engineers to install meters in domestic properties as part of our growing national contracts.


The Role

As a Dual Fuel Engineer with Orion, youll enjoy a stable, full-time PAYE position with excellent pay, bonuses, and benefits.

You will:

  • Install smart meters safely and efficiently in domestic properties.
  • Deliver a professional, customer-focused service on every visit.
  • Ensure all work meets industry safety and compliance standards.
  • Represent Orion proudly as part of a nationwide engineering team.

Pay & Package Options

Choose the option that best fits your circumstances:

  1. Salary Package
  • £43,000 rising to £45,000 per annum after successful completion of 3 month probation.
  • 33 days holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Company van, fuel card, tools & uniform provided

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 8am5pm (1-hour lunch)
  • Minimum of 4 jobs per day / 20 per week
  • Optional weekend work available once weekly targets are met

Bonus Breakdown

KPI Bonus £150 per month

  • Achieved by hitting 75% completion of your jobs in a calendar month.

Attendance Bonus £150 per month

  • Awarded for full attendance and no sick days in a calendar month. Pro-rated for holiday taken

Call Out

Call out 1 week in 4. Standby payments Monday - Sunday. Price per job: £150 per dual, £80 per single, £50 per transactional job.

Saturday work available. Paid day rate


Requirements

  • Diploma or qualification in Smart Meter Engineering
  • MOCOPA certification (completed on induction if not already held)
  • CMA1 certificate or CCN1 & MET1
  • Valid driving licence
  • Clean DBS check (recent CRB certificate within 3 months preferred)
  • EUSR card (advantageous but not essential)

Documents required:
Driving licence, passport, gas certificates, MOCOPA, qualification/diploma, NI number, references, and DBS.

Reporting to the Site Controls & Automation Manager, you will be responsible for automation, controls and electrical systems of the production plant.

Key Responsibilities – Site Automation Engineer

Responsible for the development, implementation, documentation, test and maintenance of software, for:

Inverter drives

Programmable safety systems

PLCs

Servo drives

SCADA system

Operator interface (HMI) screens

Train and provide advice to Engineers and Operators as required

PLC alterations & improvements

New installations, including programming of software

Requirements & Qualifications – Site Automation Engineer

Must possess an electrical engineering qualification (HNC/HND Level)

A working knowledge of PLC systems and HMI software

Experience maintaining electrical/control systems on complex process and/or high-speed production equipment

Experience troubleshooting, testing, and repairing instrumentation devices

Experience in PLC touch screen controls and electrical maintenance

Problem solving and root cause analysis experience

PLC programming skills

Time served Electrical Engineer

Automation / Controls apprentice with several years post qualification work experience within a manufacturing environment

HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Ability to fault find and implement program modifications on a range of PLCs & SCADA

Knowledge of servo drives and inverters

Experience of fault-finding on industrial communication networks

Experience of designing & modifying control circuits and program logic
