This is a newly created role to supplement their existing skillsets in Mechanical & Process Engineering design. This is an opportunity for an engineer with water industry experience to take on a key technical position.

Your new role as Electrical Design Engineer
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will deliver electrical design solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the island of Ireland, working closely with multi-disciplinary project teams. Your work will span the design of low-voltage systems, PLC control integration and cabling infrastructure for pumping stations, treatment works and associated electrical installations.

To be considered for this role, you should demonstrate:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline.
  • Proven experience in electrical design engineering, ideally within the water sector or infrastructure environment.
  • Strong experience in low voltage electrical design, cabling design and PLC system integration.
  • Competence with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, E-Plan, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with water/wastewater industry standards, regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with strong attention to detail and project organisation.
  • Experience with high voltage systems is an advantage, though not essential.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

What you’ll do

  • Perform planned maintenance activities to include condition reports on a wide range of automated equipment, to include Auto Entrance Doors, Industrial Doors, Automatic Gates and Vehicle Barriers.
  • Perform fault diagnosis/repair tasks on a wide range of automated equipment.
  • Carry out the installation and commissioning of the afore mentioned equipment types.
  • To understand company and client specific procedures and to strive to apply them at all times.
  • Follow our Risk Assessment procedure in order to ensure the safety of all persons (including self) and prevent damage to property.
  • Approach all tasks in a logical and focused fashion.
  • Be willing to attend training and / or undertake qualifications in order to keep up to date with current regulations and best practice within the industry
  • Competently perform and document risk assessments and hazard analysis to a wide range of installed equipment to ensure that all foreseeable risk is either eliminated or reduced as far as possible
  • Be proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, access equipment and other specialist equipment necessary to perform the tasks described above.
  • Clearly communicate via the companys defined methods, service/works records, findings, concerns and recommendations following each task.
  • Be efficient in the use of materials and other resources.
  • Willing to respond to emergencies and to be included in the on call rota.
  • Ad hoc duties as instructed by management.

What you’ll bring

As a Door and Gates Engineer your main skills and experience will include:

Essential Criteria:

  • Have a recognised relevant trade and or technical qualifications in electrical or mechanical disciplines.
  • Have relevant experience in the repair, maintenance or installation of Automatic Door or Gate Systems or similar types of equipment
  • Be able to demonstrate electrical competency
  • Have and maintain a clean valid driving licence
  • Have the ability to read and understand technical drawings and literature.
  • Have a proven ability to use mobile technology and be good with paperwork.
  • Be a good communicator both with clients and own team
  • Be self-motivated with a proven track record of achieving KPI targets.

Desirable:

  • Be able to demonstrate competence in Automatic Gate or Automatic/Industrial Door safety standards by evidence of having undertaken relevant training / certification and by demonstrating enthusiasm for improving workmanship/compliance standards.
  • Hold one or more of the following: ADSA BS7036 Authorised Technician Card, ADSA BS EN 16005 Qualification, a recognised gate industry qualification and / or City & Guilds NVQ level 3 or similar in an engineering discipline.

  • Have welding/fabrication skills

  • Responsible for full installation of fire alarm systems. The engineer will travel to customer locations, install, program and commission systems in compliance with current relevant standards. This requires the engineers to have a deep understanding of the current regulations, allied to strong product knowledge and a practical aptitude to ensure successful project delivery.
  • In addition to new project delivery, the engineer will be required to respond to reactive fault calls. Here they will troubleshoot faulty systems to reach an accurate diagnosis enabling the repair to be affected with the aim of achieving a functioning and compliant system.
  • The engineer will also be required to perform planned maintenance services to Fire Alarms. During these visits, systems will be checked to confirm that they are still fit for purpose regarding how the building may have changed either structurally or with how it is used. The engineer will check that the system is functioning fully and will look to anticipate what actions need to take place to achieve the aim of reduced unplanned fault callouts between service visits.
  • For each task, the engineer will complete the necessary paperwork (increasingly electronic type), noting all work performed, materials used and any further action necessary to achieve a compliant system.
  • To provide 24 hour call-out cover on a rota basis.
  • To carry out any other job specific duties as deemed appropriate.

  • Creating system architectures, topologies and electrical interconnection schematics
  • Leading multi-system integration (electrical, mechanical & communications)
  • Supporting DVP&R, validation, verification and on-vehicle testing
  • System start-up, commissioning and fault finding
  • Producing technical documentation for production and aftermarket teams

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Strong systems engineering experience within automotive, off-highway, heavy or complex electromechanical products
  • Solid understanding of system integration, requirements management and validation
  • Experience with electrical principles, schematics and vehicle/system testing
  • Confident communicator who can work cross-functionally and with suppliers

Desirable experience includes CANbus, ISO 26262, functional safety, off-highway vehicles or control systems.
