What you’ll do

The following reflect the main tasks associated with the position and are not intended to be exclusive or exhaustive:

• Responsible for full installation of fire alarm systems. The engineer will travel to customer locations, install, program and commission systems in compliance with current relevant standards. This requires the engineers to have a deep understanding of the current regulations, allied to strong product knowledge and a practical aptitude to ensure successful project delivery.
• In addition to new project delivery, the engineer will be required to respond to reactive fault calls. Here they will troubleshoot faulty systems to reach an accurate diagnosis enabling the repair to be affected with the aim of achieving a functioning and compliant system.
• The engineer will also be required to perform planned maintenance services to Fire Alarms. During these visits, systems will be checked to confirm that they are still fit for purpose regarding how the building may have changed either structurally or with how it is used. The engineer will check that the system is functioning fully and will look to anticipate what actions need to take place to achieve the aim of reduced unplanned fault callouts between service visits.
• For each task, the engineer will complete the necessary paperwork (increasingly electronic type), noting all work performed, materials used and any further action necessary to achieve a compliant system.
• To provide 24 hour call-out cover on a rota basis.
• To carry out any other job specific duties as deemed appropriate.

As a Fire Alarm Engineer your main skills and experience will include:

• To have experience in the installation, commissioning, servicing and maintaining of fire detection, and life safety systems to the applicable British and European Standards and knowledge also of all relevant BAFE/NSI codes of practice.
• To be conversant with the products and systems installed and with any significant limitations inherent in such products and systems.
• Ability to operate PC software packages used for configuration and maintenance purposes
• Knowledge of relevant Fire Alarm standards
• Knowledge of relevant Security System Standards

Working Hours

• Continental shift pattern:4 days on, 4 days off.
• 42 hours/weekon average ,including weekends, bank holidays, and night shifts.
• 12-hour shifts: This will rotate between days (07:00-19:00) and nights (19:00-7:00).
• Includes weekends, bank holidays, and night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Carry outmaintenance activitiesin your area of responsibility, maximizing wrench time while following safety protocols.
• Support continuous improvement using the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle.
• Provide feedback to planners and leadership to helpoptimizeschedules, frequency, and parts planning.
• Conduct pre- and post-maintenancequality checks.
• Managelubrication mapping andexecution ,andsupport the simplification and rationalisation of our lubricants.
• Train the autonomous maintenance teamon equipment knowledge, basic Clean-Inspect-Lubricate routine and fault diagnostics.
• Lead theroot cause analysissessions and offer technicalexpertise.
• Promote andmaintainstrong5S standardsacross the plant.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3or equivalentengineering apprenticeshipwith hands-on experience.
• Recognizedelectrical academicqualification.
• Strongelectro-mechanical knowledge.
• Familiarity withCMMS and SCADAsystems.
• Solid understanding of equipment and technical standards.
• A sense of ownership forsafety, quality, and performance.
• Problem-solvingskills.
• Good communication.
