System Engineer Role Description

LU Asset Performance Delivery (APD) is responsible for the maintenance and renewal of the asset base that makes up the London Underground transport network including Rolling Stock, Signalling and Track assets, civils infrastructure, stations & premises, building services and station systems and the power network.

The next phase in LU Engineering’s activities to modernise how LU APD manages and maintains their assets commenced in April 2025 with the start of a five year programme of work. This sees LU APD move from making changes to realise short term financial savings to one that is more ambitious in scope, to deliver systemic change to optimise the maintenance intervention on the assets, across the operate-maintain phase of the asset lifecycle.

We are seeking high calibre System Engineers with experience of system engineering across the entirety of the asset lifecycle, to play a pivotal role in leading the development and delivery of this Engineering initiative. The objective is to drive modernisation of maintenance across all asset classes in London Underground, through transformation, towards a cost, performance and risk optimised maintenance approach based on data-driven maintenance.

The System Engineers:

  • will be required to lead, guide and direct engineers in system engineering principles (internal and external) to identify, develop and deliver the system engineering deliverables
  • will be required to deliver requirements management (DOORS), Model Based System Engineering (using Enterprise Architect) and other system engineering deliverables
  • will be primarily focussed on driving change within the Operate/Maintain phase of the asset lifecycle and predominantly to existing assets and maintenance regimes. The scope is across all assets that make up the LU railway system.

It is recognised that experience in the maintenance and management of an asset type generates competence / knowledge which is transferable to other asset areas. Hence this scope is not requiring specific asset or engineering domain experience. But the following experience is considered relevant to successfully delivering the scope:

Role Overview:

The purpose of the program is to oversee and coordinate industry activity around the move from legacy telephone networks - principally the retirement of the Public Switched Telephone Network and move to digital (IP-based) lines but also looking ahead to 2G switch off and copper retirement. The role will serve as a single point of contact for industry, stakeholders and Ofcom and the UK Government. GRC Analyst 3-month contract Fully Remote

My Customer is looking for an experienced GRC Analyst to join the organisation to strengthen governance, risk, and compliance practices and will lead the delivery of ISO 27001 certification within the next 12 months.

The GRC Analyst will focus on maintaining current ISO and SOC 2 standards within the business. Technical understanding would be beneficial but not essential. Knowledge of the requirements of the above standards in relation to contracts and vendor relationships is essential.

Key Skills & Experience from the GRC Analyst:

  • Proven experience in a GRC, security risk, or compliance role
  • Certifications for ISO 27001 (Lead Implementer/Auditor), would be required
  • Strong knowledge of frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, SOC 2, CIS, and data protection standards
  • Onboarding/vendor risk management experience
  • Hands-on experience supporting or leading ISO 27001 certification activities
  • Solid understanding of risk assessment, control design, and audit processes
  • Experience working with GRC tooling, evidence management, and reporting
  • Experience/Knowledge around high volume data process would be beneficial
  • Strong documentation, communication, and organisational skills
  • Experience operating in regulated or security-conscious environments
  • Experience in the Finance Sector would be beneficial

Key Responsibilities of the GRC Analyst:

  • Develop and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures aligned to recognised frameworks
  • Lead ISO 27001 readiness and certification activities, including ISMS support and audit coordination
  • Conduct risk assessments across systems, processes, and third parties, tracking remediation actions
  • PoC for legal department - onboarding/vendor/contract risk management
  • Act as the primary liaison for internal stakeholders and external auditors
  • Design, test, and monitor security and compliance controls, ensuring evidence is audit-ready
  • Manage GRC tools and reporting to provide clear insight into risk and compliance posture
  • Embed security and risk considerations into projects, suppliers, and business initiatives
  • Monitor regulatory and standards changes and advise on required organisational updates

The GRC Analyst can work fully remote for the duration of the contract.

Tasks range from understanding business requirements, designing application structures, business data analysis, programming WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) applications in Visual C#.NET on both Oracle and SQL Server database, testing with users, implementation through Development, Quality Assurance (QA), Production and Disaster Recovery environments. Supporting users and writing operation documents including User Helps (manuals) will also be required.
As well as application development, this role will also include all aspects of system constructions and support for existing programmes which are written as WinForms (C#.NET) applications. Also, applications written in other languages like MS VBA for Excel and Access, MS VB and MS Excel Macros will also be required.

Additional Tasks

Defining Database objects required in systems to connect with SQL and Oracle Database Administrators in both London and New York.
Providing script for database inquiry languages, i.e., T-SQL (SQL Server) and PL/SQL (Oracle) to perform data analysis based on requirements from business parties.
Setting up a system distribution method to Citrix and application servers for both Web and Window applications.
Troubleshooting systems in an event of failure and implementing necessary solutions by checking Windows Operating System, Internet Information Server and any other relevant environments where the applications are running. In some case this role will act to liaise with other application support team staff.
Following the existing team programming policy to keep a common development style to be shared in team members.
Updating versions of MS .Net Framework and MS Visual .NET platform to include any necessary changes of existing systems running in Production.
Liaising with the relevant support teams such as other Development sections, Technical Support, Network and Infrastructure and DBA where Business users experience system problems.
Assessing the impact of data processing loads on SQL and Oracle database and, when appropriate, finding alternative approaches.
