Site Engineer – Quality & Adoptions

East / Central Scotland | Multi-site role | Design & Engineering Team

Be the technical backbone behind infrastructure quality and successful adoptions across multiple live housing developments.

An established residential developer is seeking a technically strong, site-focused engineer to take ownership of infrastructure inspection, quality assurance and the structured close-out of developments through to adoption.

This role sits within the Design & Engineering team, reporting to the Engineering Manager — not site management — and focuses on ensuring roads, drainage, SUDS and external works are constructed correctly, signed off properly and successfully adopted by bodies such as Scottish Water and local authorities.

The Role

You’ll work across multiple live developments throughout East and Central Scotland, carrying out programmed inspections of groundworks and infrastructure, verifying compliance with drawings and standards, identifying defects early and ensuring remedial actions are closed out efficiently.

You’ll also lead the technical coordination of adoptions and handovers — from as-built records and testing through to vesting — acting as a key liaison between site teams, contractors and adopting authorities. Your work will directly enable smooth, compliant site closure and protect programme and commercial performance.

Functionally, this position allows senior engineering staff to focus on design development, approvals and value engineering, while you ensure delivery quality and orderly completion on the ground.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect groundworks, roads, drainage and SUDS installations across multiple sites
  • Monitor compliance with drawings, specifications and Scottish standards
  • Maintain structured inspection records, reports and photographic evidence
  • Support and review ITPs and key hold points for civils packages
  • Coordinate sewer, roads and SUDS adoptions through to vesting
  • Liaise with Scottish Water, local authority roads teams, Building Standards and factors
  • Drive closure of defects and non-conformances prior to adoption
  • Provide technical feedback to improve future design and constructability

About You

You’ll likely come from a background as a Site Engineer, Civil Engineer, Clerk of Works or Infrastructure Inspector within residential or groundworks projects.

You’ll bring:

  • Strong knowledge of housing infrastructure (roads, drainage, utilities, SUDS)
  • Experience in site inspection and quality assurance
  • Confidence interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
  • Understanding of Scottish adoption processes (desirable but not essential)
  • Excellent organisation skills across multiple live sites
  • Full UK driving licence

HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering (or similar) is desirable.

Technical Architect | Multiple UK Base Offices (Hybrid Working) | 6 Months | Inside IR35

Must be SC Eligible

Rate: 525

The Opportunity

Step into a role where your architectural vision directly influences critical digital services across government, healthcare, and mission-driven organisations. You’ll design and deliver sophisticated technical solutions that balance innovation with pragmatism, working on projects that genuinely matter.

You’ll be part of a collaborative architecture practice where knowledge-sharing is embedded in the culture, and your professional growth is actively supported through exposure to diverse challenges and expert colleagues.

What You’ll Do

Design for Impact

Define robust software architectures using proven patterns and modern approaches, creating detailed designs that power large-scale enterprise applications aligned to real business needs.

Lead Through Influence

Guide multidisciplinary delivery teams to bring your architectural vision to life, ensuring solutions are performant, maintainable, and user-focused.

Drive Quality Standards

Navigate architecture governance processes and contribute to evolving assurance frameworks, ensuring designs meet quality attributes and non-functional requirements.

Innovate Responsibly

Evaluate emerging technologies and patterns, introducing innovations that deliver measurable value to projects and stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For

Core Technical Capabilities

You don’t NEED “Technical Architect” on your CV, but you do need to demonstrate architectural thinking and delivery. We’re looking for evidence that you:

  • Design and implement technical solutions for modern, enterprise-scale systems using effective patterns and appropriate technologies
  • Take ownership of architectural designs from conception through to live service
  • Possess deep knowledge of software development practices, programming languages, and design methodologies, and know when to apply each
  • Translate business requirements into implementable components that deliver tangible outcomes
  • Champion non-functional requirements and architectural quality attributes

Consultancy Mindset

Technical expertise alone isn’t enough. We need Architects who can:

  • Build trusted relationships across business and technical stakeholders, creating alignment around technical direction
  • Apply structured problem-solving approaches to complex challenges
  • Lead collaboratively, bringing teams along through influence rather than authority
  • Mentor and develop colleagues, sharing knowledge generously
  • Stay current with technology trends while maintaining practical focus

Valuable Additional Experience

While not essential, the following would strengthen your application:

  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman, Open Agile Architecture, or similar)
  • Experience delivering digital services within UK Government standards, including Service Manual guidance, Agile delivery approaches, and Service Assessments
  • Understanding of user-centred design principles and accessibility standards (WCAG)
  • Practical knowledge of DevOps practices and service management

If you don’t have all of this, don’t let that stop you applying - support and development are available.
