Job Description
We are currently recruiting for Technical Leads to sit within one of our core value streams to focus on developing and implementing innovative digital technology. What you’ll do:
Technical Lead for a squad, ensuring collaborative working with Product Owners, Developers, QA’s, Architects and the wider business.
Lead, manage and coach a team of engineers. You will lead from the front with expert hands-on software development experience and ensure high technical standards are met throughout the team.
Collaborate with the Product Owner to ensure the squad has a clear mission, understands the wider tech strategy, healthy backlog and working to Agile practices.
Work with our Architects and Principal Engineers on new tech choices and architecture evolution.
Always looking at ways to Improve engineering practices in the squad including code quality, testing and CI/CD.
Be a senior part of esure’s engineering community. Strive to actively share technical expertise with the team and champion / drive tech change wider than your squad.

The HPC Cloud Engineer will be a part of the Research and Computing team, responsible for the development and maintenance of the University’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) services and Research Storage services, applying technical expertise to resolve complex problems, support an active and growing user community, generate innovative ideas and enhance the delivery of the HPC and storage services.
Ensure systems change management is carried out in accordance with agreed standards and procedures, creating and managing software test and development environments. You will therefore design, script, code, test and document the deployment and development of Open Source commercial and custom software using agreed standards and tools to achieve well-engineered bespoke systems, especially when linking existing systems or providing novel interfaces to existing data.
You will provide advice and assistance on service and component availability, employ through-life planning models to ensure systems meet business needs and inform customers of supplier product developments and upgrades, advising on implementation. You till developing implementation plans for complex requests for change, evaluating risks to infrastructure integrity and reviewing effectiveness of change implementation.
Provide and maintain stable HPC and research storage services, ensuring maximum operation of service, alongside providing technical support to the active community of Research Computing users. This would be through technical knowledge transfer, assisting them with utilising the resources, debugging and optimisation, through innovative solutions that enrich and enhance user experience and service delivery.
Supporting outreach activities to enable exploitation of cloud research services by a broader user-base, represent the University within the HPC community through regional and national HPC centres and the HPC Specialist Interest Group, undertake research into suppliers, markets and product and service categories and overall be a trusted advisor and advocate between IT and key University stakeholders.
About you
Detailed knowledge and experience of administering Linux servers and a working knowledge of Windows operating system.
Familiar with HPC technologies, including provisioning, job schedulers and low-latency interconnects.
Experience with HPC Job Schedulers such as SLURM, PBS and IBM LSF.
Knowledge and experience in using one or more scripting languages, such as Bash, Python and SQL.
Experience with any cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, AWS and GCP.
Understanding of parallel programming methodologies.
Experience in the design and delivery of training courses.

Are you ready to take the first step into operational leadership within Water Recycling? This two-year graduate opportunity offers hands-on experience managing the journey of used water from customers’ homes to our recycling centres - ensuring safety, efficiency, and environmental protection.
As a Graduate Water Recycling (WR) Network Manager, you’ll be part of a high-performing team responsible for maintaining our sewer network and delivering excellent customer service. You’ll gain exposure to asset management, incident response, stakeholder engagement, and budget control, all while developing the skills to lead teams and drive performance.
What You’ll Be Doing
Support the operational management of the Water Recycling Network and collection system
Work closely with Field Technicians, Network Integrity, and Maintenance teams
Help reduce pollution and flooding incidents while putting customers first
Assist in managing planned and reactive work across a multi-million-pound budget
Contribute to asset performance reviews and identify investment needs
Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including councils and community forums

The role
You’ll help clients improve their services by selecting the appropriate techniques to turn data into insights, by working within a product delivery team to develop performance measuring frameworks to track goals, user needs, or KPIs. You’ll operate within the client’s requirements and the appropriate legal, technical and ethical constraints.
Leading by example and promoting Opencast’s approach, you’ll mentor junior colleagues, provide constructive feedback, and demonstrate an understanding of each product delivery stage and how to apply appropriate measurements for that phase of work.
Ensure that work is carried out in accordance with Opencast’s quality, environmental, and information security policies and procedures, as well as applicable customer policies, standards, and procedures while working on client.
Essential experience
• Scripting and programming languages such as SQL, Python, R etc
• Visualising data using Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, Power Query or similar
• Designed and implemented a performance framework including KPIs or OKRs for a service or product
• Analytical skills in identifying the right data sources and then validate and understand how to interpret the results
• Collected, collated, cleansed, and interpreted data to derive meaningful and actionable insights
• An ability to use the most appropriate medium to visualise data to tell compelling and relevant actionable stories
• Created hypotheses that can be tested, and developed insights based on your findings
• Valid Security Clearance or eligibility (5+ years residency in the UK)
Desirable experience

We are currently recruiting for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) on a permanent basis. The Test Engineer will produce high quality software services to support in building better experiences for our customers and to drive us towards being a true data driven, digital first organisation.
What you’ll do:
Member of multi-discipline team shaping esure’s future performance testing capability
Proactively improves application performance, reliability, processes and continuous improvement culture
Defines, tests and reports NFRs across customer journeys and services
Delivers automated performance, load, stress and endurance testing to meet requirements
Uses leading tools like Gatling, JMeter and k6 for testing
Builds and maintains frameworks integrating with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows
Creates and delivers end-to-end performance test strategies and plans
Drives testing improvements, automation, and active engagement in testing communities
Qualifications
What we’d love you to bring:
A background in software testing and performance testing
Experience with object orientated programming, preferably Java, Selenium and TestNg/Junit. Experience with API testing is also essential.
Must have experience in automation testing where you have actively created and maintained frameworks.
Skilled in comprehending intricate systems that include API, serverless options, legacy Java platforms, and databases.
Proficient in deciphering intricate systems that involve a blend of API, serverless solutions, outdated java infrastructures, and databases
Previous background working within high traffic, highly transactional online environments
Experience of working in an agile, SCRUM & Dev Ops delivery model
The Interview Process  (subject to change):

1st stage interview: 30 minute interview with one of our QA Leads
