Senior/Principal Data Centre Engineer (Mechanical & Electrical Design)

The Role:

We are looking to appoint aSenior / Principal Mechanical & Electrical Data Centre Engineerwithproven, hands-on design experiencein mission-critical environments. This is atechnical engineering role, suited to someone who enjoys leading complex MEP designs and acting as a subject matter expert not a project management position.

You will be responsible for developing and delivering robust, resilient and efficient data centre designs, while also providing high-level technical advice to major global data centre clients. The role combines detailed engineering design with strategic advisory work that frequently leads into full design commissions.

Most projects are currently UK-based, with increasing involvement inEuropean projectsfor established international clients.

Our Data Centre Work:

Our data centre team works with major operators, developers and owners, including hyperscalers and colocation providers, on projects such as:

• New data centres up to 100MW
• Technical due diligence, feasibility studies and advisory reports
• Strategic asset replacement programmes
• Reviewing existing live data centres to increase capacity and resilience
• Design of MEP upgrades within operational facilities
• Compliance monitoring and performance reviews
• Preparation of detailedtechnical specifications and scopes of work
• Electricalprotection studiesand resilience assessments

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead themechanical and electrical designof data centre projects from concept through detailed design
• Produce and reviewhigh-quality technical design deliverables, calculations and reports
• Develop and challengeresilience, redundancy and capacity strategies(e.g. N, N+1, 2N)
• Review existing MEP systems and propose technically robust upgrade solutions
• Act as a senior technical advisor to clients on data centre infrastructure
• Provide technical oversight and guidance to other engineers
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards, codes and best practice
• Support advisory work that leads into detailed design without losing technical ownership
• Contribute to internal technical excellence and continuous improvement

This role is focused on engineering design leadership. While you will collaborate with project managers, you will not be expected to act in a project management capacity.About You

Essential:

• Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
• Extensivedata centre design experiencein a consulting engineering environment
• Demonstrable experience deliveringMEP designs for data centres, not just overseeing delivery
• Strong understanding of mission-critical MEP systems, including power, cooling and resilience
• Ability to lead technical design decisions and challenge assumptions

Technical Lead

Location: Farnborough, with flexibility to work from home dependent on business demands

The Role:

The Technical Lead has overall responsibility for all engineering activities and leadership of the team, on the workstream that they are assigned by the Chief Engineer.

Their responsibility and accountability extends from project start up through to operations and closedown and includes on contract growth.

What will I be doing?

• Delivery and technical assurance of the solution within the quality, cost and schedule constraints;
• Achieving acceptance of the solution by the customer
• Providing technical leadership and mentorship across the workstream team;
• Ensuring that the engineering processes within the project are commensurate with the requirements of the contracted standards and Leidos corporate governance;
• Identifying the skills and staff required to deliver the engineering solution;
• Defining the engineering practices and resources required to deliver the project and services within the constraints of the company engineering policies;
• Lead and manage effective engineering activities across the project;
• Preparing project specific technical documentation in collaboration with project discipline SMEs for PDR, CDR, SRR and SPR reviews and other technical sessions as required;
• Lead and deliver updates to baseline HLD / LLD documentation as required by the project;
• In collaboration with project PMs prepare technical WBS, PBS and resource BoEs against overall solution proposals for change proposals and on contract growth;

What does Leidos need from me?

The candidate is required to be a technical leader, able to coordinate and direct engineering teams in successful delivery and acceptance of the system. Ability to execute and perform, with direction from the Chief Engineer, and possess significant practical experience and applied knowledge across the following areas:

• Complex systems integration projects, involving IT systems;

• Technical Management of subcontractors;

• Systems Engineering and understanding of the principles behind each of the main processes;

• Technical Team Management including the planning of work packages, allocation to team members and reporting;

• Technical Team Leadership including providing technical direction to team members;

In addition to the areas above, you are required to have:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and work well in a team environment;
• Ability to clearly articulate and communicate design and technical concepts in written and verbal forms;
• Intellectual calibre and confidence to conduct complex discussions with civilian and service customers and suppliers;
• Commercial awareness sufficient to support discussions with customers and suppliers;

It would be beneficial if you had experience in the following:

• Public sector and sensitive projects
• Background in Software Engineering or IT Systems Integration

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Solutions Architect with strong AI skills and knowledge, to provide architectural solution design and assurance across technology, cloud, data, and AI-enabled initiatives. The role focuses on designing secure, scalable, and compliant solutions, enabling innovation while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, regulatory requirements, and organisational risk appetite.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead solution design and assure end-to-end solution architectures, including cloud platforms, enterprise systems, data pipelines, and AI/ML solutions.
• Embed secure-by-design and responsible AI principles, covering data protection, model governance, and risk management.
• Identify and mitigate architectural, security, and AI-related risks using a risk-based, pragmatic approach.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, data teams, and stakeholders to deliver secure and resilient solutions.
• Contribute to architecture governance, design authorities, and continuous improvement of security and AI assurance practices.

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Solutions Architect or Security Architect in complex or regulated environments.
• Strong knowledge of security and enterprise architecture principles (e.g. zero trust, defence in depth).
• Experience with AI-enabled solutions, data platforms, and cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with TOGAF, NIST, ISO 27001, OWASP Top 10 and emerging AI governance frameworks.
• Ability to clearly communicate technical, security, and AI risks to both technical and non-technical audiences.
