What you’ll be doing

  • Conducting analysis and evaluations of submarine platforms manoeuvring performances from concept design to in-service support
  • Undertaking the development, verification and validation of mathematical manoeuvring models using physical model test data
  • Managing the generation of safe manoeuvring envelopes and supporting associated operator guidance
  • You will be working with enterprise partners to develop the modelling capability, processes and toolsets for use to support our major programmes
  • Working collaboratively with other naval architecture teams, systems teams, Active Vehicle Control system teams and propulsion engineers as well as customers and suppliers to deliver innovative and safe submarine solutions
  • Supporting and conducting hydrodynamic sea trials such as depth and heading control, including test form development and post-trial data analysis

Your skills and experiences

Essential:

  • Experience in the generation of ship or submarine manoeuvring modelling
  • A strong understanding of hydrodynamic principles and methods
  • Degree in Naval Architecture, Aeronautical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent experience

Desirable:

  • Hydrodynamic/aerodynamic design and evaluation experience

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards/ability to achieve

The Vehicle Control team

As a Principal/Senior Naval Architect within the Vehicle Control team, you will be working alongside a team of experts within Naval Architecture and the Whole Boat Design Team in one of the largest and fastest growing Naval Architecture Departments in the UK. Our client, operating in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Test Engineer specialising in Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) to join their team in a permanent capacity. Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform various EMC test activities in line with a Test Plan produced by the EMC Project Team.
  • Produce Test Reports following the completion of EMC test activities.
  • Simulate electromagnetic environments in the EMC Laboratories located in Bristol.
  • Support product development cycles from Risk Reduction activities to full Qualification Testing.
  • Ensure good EMC practice and design across all projects within the organisation.
  • Collaborate with both the on-site test team and the project consultancy team.

Job Requirements:

Essential:

  • Experience in EMC Testing to Defence Standards.
  • Proficiency in using Compliance 5 and EMC 32 Software.
  • Higher education or substantial experience in fields such as Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or EMC.
  • Understanding of EMC and design principles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and work within budget constraints.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Professionalism and adaptability to evolving company needs.
  • Ability to work autonomously to meet delivery requirements.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and application of military EMC standards (e.g. Defence Standard 59-, AECTP500, Mil-Std-461, RTCA DO160 / EUROCAE ED-14).
  • Prior experience in providing support related to electromagnetic compatibility.

The Role

As an L1/L1.5 Technical Support Engineer, you will diagnose and resolve a variety of technical issues while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. You will work within the ITIL framework, managing the lifecycle of Incidents and Service Requests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Omnichannel Support: Handle inbound calls, chats, and emails, ensuring all issues are logged, categorized, and prioritized in the ITSM tool (ServiceNow/Remedy).
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Resolve issues related to Windows OS, O365, VPN, and Citrix.
  • User Administration: Manage account creations, password resets, and distribution lists via Active Directory and Office 365.
  • Hardware & Mobility: Support and configure desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices (iOS/Android).
  • Escalation: Identify complex issues and escalate to appropriate resolver groups while maintaining ownership of the user experience.

Technical Skillset

  • Must-Have: Active Directory, O365, Windows 10/11, VPN troubleshooting, and Citrix.
  • Hardware: Proficiency in supporting laptops, tablets, and peripherals.
  • Mobile: Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) and mobile OS.
  • Advantageous: Knowledge of Infrastructure, Exchange, or Server technologies.

Requirements

  • Experience: 1-3 years in a Service Desk or Technical Support environment.
  • Education: Any Graduate.
  • Language: Native or C1-level English proficiency (CEFR).
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, a natural aptitude for troubleshooting, and experience supporting US/UK-based customers.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work in a 24x7 shift rotation.
  • ITIL: Strong awareness of ITIL methodologies (Certification is a plus).
