We are seeking a skilled and proactive Shift Engineer (Mechanical Bias) to support production operations within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
The successful candidate will maintain plant and equipment to the highest standards, deliver effective planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and respond rapidly to breakdowns to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous production.

Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Production Support
Complete all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities in line with schedules set by the Engineering Manager.
Maintain accurate, compliant, and up-to-date maintenance documentation.
Respond urgently and effectively to plant and production breakdowns, prioritising workload with the Engineering Manager or Shift Supervisor.
Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs to minimise downtime and maintain output.
Progress assigned engineering job lists within agreed timeframes.
Support reliability improvements and continuous improvement initiatives across site.
Ensure efficient use of spare parts, materials, and consumables to control maintenance costs.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Maintain a safe and healthy working environment at all times.
Comply fully with Safe Working Procedures (SWPs), site rules, and company policies.
Ensure correct PPE usage and standards are consistently met.
Promote excellent housekeeping and a clean-as-you-go culture.
Report hazards, near misses, and safety concerns immediately to management.
Communication & Reporting
Deliver clear and structured shift handovers to maintain production continuity.
Complete and distribute detailed shift reports to Engineering and Production Management.
Escalate unresolved faults, repeat failures, or risks to production promptly.
Communicate critical and routine spare-parts requirements to the Engineering Manager.
Liaise closely with Production teams to minimise downtime and support performance targets.
Team & Culture
Promote professional engineering standards and positive cross-department relationships.
Contribute to a collaborative, solution-focused team environment.
Report workforce morale or operational concerns appropriately to management.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Level 3 NVQ (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair experience within heavy industry or manufacturing
Proven ability to respond effectively to breakdowns in time-critical environments
Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation
