Software Engineer II - College & Professional

London, United Kingdom

Your Role

We’re looking for Software Engineers to join our College & Professional business unit where we build tools for professional sports teams, leagues, and federations around the world. Our goal is to give customers better information so they can make smarter decisions, faster.

You will focus on building integrations so we can better serve the needs of our customers at multiple levels, from high school to the pros and across a range of sports (e.g., soccer, American football, rugby, basketball). You’ll be the bridge that makes our platform work seamlessly with the tools teams already use.

As an Engineer, you’ll:

  • Develop and deliver. Your team has the autonomy to make a meaningful impact on customers, and deliver game changing features to push the boundaries of what they can achieve. By taking ownership of the whole user experience, your team will help support our coaches and athletes.
  • Test new ideas. At Hudl, we iterate rapidly, deploying changes to the product hundreds of times a day across our Engineering team. Outside of working on concrete features, you’ll have the opportunity to propose solutions to more ambiguous technical problems and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Work with a cross functional team. You’ll collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Product, Design and Scrum disciplines to deliver full stack web features.

For this role, we’re currently considering candidates who live within a commuting distance of our office in London. But with our flexible work policy, there aren’t any current requirements for the number of days you come to the office.

Must Haves

  • Exposure to mature, full stack web applications. You have several years’ commercial experience building across most or all levels of a web application, from the client side code, all the way down to the database.
  • Comfortable with uncertainty. You appreciate ambiguous work that has many possible implementation options because it gives you the chance to identify the best solution while balancing quality, consistency and value to customers.
  • Curious. You’ve picked up new technologies and domains on the job-working across myriad layers of the stack energizes you.
  • A strong communicator. You can easily and clearly express yourself. You’re able to convey technical concepts and trade offs to cross functional stakeholders.

Nice to Haves

  • Tech stack knowledge. Our core stack is C#, React, MongoDB and AWS, so experience with these is ideal, whilst software development skills in Java, Kotlin, CSS, HTML or UWP and exposure to frameworks like JSF, or Spring Boot is also a plus.
  • Automation testing. You have some experience and have worked with or built CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exposure to infrastructure tools. You’re comfortable with containerization, deployment and infrastructure as code technologies, like Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform.

Our Role

  • Champion work life harmony. We’ll give you the flexibility you need in your work life (e.g., flexible vacation time above any required statutory leave, company wide holidays and timeout (meeting free) days, remote work options and more) so you can enjoy your personal life too.
  • Guarantee autonomy. We have an open, honest culture and we trust our people from day one. Your team will support you, but you’ll own your work and have the agency to try new ideas.
  • Encourage career growth. We’re lifelong learners who encourage professional development. We’ll give you tons of resources and opportunities to keep growing.
  • Provide an environment to help you succeed. We’ve invested in our offices, designing incredible spaces with our employees in mind. But whether you’re at the office or working remotely, we’ll provide you the tech you need to do your best work.
  • Support your wellbeing. Depending on location, we offer medical and retirement benefits for employees-but no matter where you’re located, we have resources like our Employee Assistance Program and employee resource groups to support your mental health.

Inclusion at Hudl

Hudl is an equal opportunity employer. Through our actions, behaviors and attitude, we’ll create an environment where everyone, no matter their differences, feels like they belong.

Location: Central London (2/3 days onsite)

Job Type: Fulltime

Why join us?

If you love food and technology as much as we do, you’ll love life at Vita Mojo. We’re on a mission to revolutionise the hospitality experience for operators and their customers. Through our smart digital products, we’re powering the digital transformation of your favourite pubs, bars and restaurants. And we want a world where everyone gets the meal they’re hoping for. Each and every time.

Our Vita Mojo DNA

We’re proud to have built an award-winning digital platform. Vita Mojo is a positive, energetic and forward-thinking place to work, and when you become a Moji, you’ll be joining a supportive team who’ve always got your back. Our passion for technology and food is matched only by our support for our people.

About the role

Your mission as a Vita Mojo Embedded Engineer is to own and evolve the native “shell” that powers our restaurant ecosystem (POS, Kiosk, KMS). While our core applications are built using React Native Web, they operate within a complex hardware environment; including thermal printers, EMV payment terminals, and barcode scanners.

You’ll lead the transformation of our existing WebView wrapper into a high-performance, multi-threaded native bridge architecture, ensuring hardware operations run seamlessly in the background without ever compromising the user experience.

The day-to-day

Working in a startup means that things often change and we adapt to the growing and changing needs of the business. We expect the below to be the bulk of the role, but this may change over time depending on your own development needs, aspirations and the makeup of the team.

  • Architect the Native Bridge: Design and maintain a robust JavascriptInterface (Bridge) between the React Native Web app and the Android native layer.
  • Peripheral SDK Integration: Lead the implementation of 3rd party SDKs for hardware (Zebra, Epson, Star Micronics, Adyen, Stripe/BBPOS).
  • Concurrency Management: Implement advanced multi-threading (Kotlin Coroutines or Java ExecutorService) to ensure hardware “blocking” calls (like printing or card reading) occur on background threads, keeping the UI at a fluid 60fps.
  • System Hardening (Kiosk Mode): Develop and manage “Lock Task Mode” and Device Policy Controller (DPC) features for our Kiosk and POS hardware to prevent OS-level tampering.
  • IoT & Network Optimisation: Manage local network discovery (mDNS/NSD) for finding kitchen printers and optimise cellular (LTE/5G) stability for mobile POS units.
  • Hardware Health Monitoring: Build a background telemetry system to report hardware status (e.g., “Printer Out of Paper”, “Terminal Disconnected”) to our cloud dashboard.

About you

  • Experience: 5+ years in Android Development (Java/Kotlin).
  • Meaningful iOS/Swift experience - can context-switch to our iOS counterpart.
  • WebView Expert: Deep understanding of WebView internals, including asset caching, custom WebViewClient implementations, and secure JS Native communication.
  • Hardware Specialist: Proven track record of working with Serial (USB/RS232), Bluetooth (BLE), and IP-based peripherals.
  • Protocol Proficiency: Experience with ESC/POS (thermal printing) and JSON-RPC or MQTT for device messaging.
  • Architectural Knowledge: Strong grasp of the Android IOS Lifecycle to ensure background hardware tasks aren’t killed by the OS.
  • Payment terminal integration experience (any major provider).
  • Debugging mindset - a lot of this role is figuring out why something broke on a specific device at a specific store.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the FinTech/POS industry.
  • Thermal receipt printers (ESC/POS), kiosk hardware (ELO), device fleet management / MDM, embedded systems background.
  • Knowledge of React Native Web to better collaborate with the frontend team.

Our Benefits and Ways of Working

We’re proud of the open, inclusive, and supportive culture we’ve built, and continue to build Vita Mojo. We operate a hybrid working model with two in-office collaboration days each week. Outside of those, we trust our team to manage their working day in a way that suits them, while being mindful of team needs, collaboration, and business priorities. This means you can flex your time when needed, whether for personal appointments, family responsibilities, or deep-focus work as long as you’re communicating openly and delivering on your goals.

Private Healthcare All team members have access to private medical insurance through Vitality Health, offering fast access to high-quality healthcare, wellbeing resources, and the Vitality Programme.

Life Assurance We provide Group Life Assurance through Legal & General, offering financial protection and wellbeing support to your loved ones in the event of your passing.

Income Protection Income Protection is offered via Canada Life to support you financially if you’re unable to work due to long-term illness or injury, with additional support to help you return to work when ready.

Learning & Development We believe that when you grow, we all grow. We’re proud to support professional development that helps you build transferable skills, whether that’s in your current role or to set you up for future success within the company. We’re also happy to support learning that’s not strictly role-specific, as long as it’s professionally enhancing and contributes to your broader growth at Vita Mojo.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our Cloud Infra team at Synthesia. Cloud Infra is a group that enables our Product engineers to build, and deploy Synthesia state of the art technologies.

You can expect to work across cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and tooling, with autonomy to identify and fix bottlenecks in a fast moving AI company.

This is a hands on senior IC role (roughly level 5 scope). You’ll be joining a growing team that’s shifting from enablement to direct execution, and you’ll help shape how we scale our infrastructure over the next year.

What you’ll do

  • Maintain and scale Kubernetes (EKS) clusters - managing workloads, deployments, and monitoring at production scale.
  • Manage and evolve our AWS (and some GCP) cloud environments, balancing reliability, cost, and velocity.
  • Own and improve our CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions on our self hosted AWS runners).
  • Define and implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Terragrunt.
  • Strengthen observability via Datadog and enable teams to understand their systems in production.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineers to deploy and monitor production services.
  • Drive FinOps practices: vendor management, cost allocation, and financial feedback loops.
  • Contribute to internal tooling, automation, and reporting platforms that improve developer experience.

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

  • Deep hands on DevOps / SRE / Platform experience in a SaaS or high traffic product environment.
  • Strong Kubernetes experience - spinning up and managing clusters, not just consuming them.
  • Proven AWS and/or GCP expertise.
  • Proficiency with Terraform / Terragrunt, Linux, and Python scripting.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD design patterns.
  • Experience with Datadog or similar observability tooling.
  • Comfortable operating autonomously in ambiguous environments.
  • A pragmatic mindset - focusing on scalable, maintainable solutions over theoretical perfection.
  • A bias toward execution and written communication, especially in remote contexts.

Bonus points

  • Familiarity with Temporal.io, or workflow orchestration frameworks.
  • Light frontend or tooling development experience (React, Node.js).
  • Previous work supporting AI research or data intensive environments.

Other important info

  • This is a remote role from an EU country, UK or Switzerland or hybrid from one of our London, Munich, Copenhagen, or Zurich hubs.
  • This is full time employment only - no contractors possible - usually through OysterHR or a local entity.
  • We only sponsor visas if you are in the UK or some EU countries already.
