Analysing system capabilities and resolving technical queries

Skills & Experience:
Strong proficiency in Java
Knowledge of additional languages such as Python, C++, JavaScript, TypeScript or React (desirable)
Experience developing software for cloud environments, particularly AWS
Understanding of microservices and/or serverless architectures
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for cloud deployments
Awareness of challenges when migrating on-premise workloads to the cloud
Knowledge of AWS services such as EC2, EKS, Fargate, IAM, S3 and Lambda
Experience working in Linux environments
Understanding of unit testing and mocking frameworks (e.g. JUnit 5)
Experience with Git version control
Knowledge of Agile development methodologies (SCRUM)
Understanding of relational databases (e.g. Oracle) and/or MongoDB
Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD pipelines

As we have grown, we have accumulated a diverse database infrastructure, including PostgreSQL, Maria DB, InfluxDB and MongoDB systems.
The timing is ripe for an experienced Administrator to take ownership, mature, upgrade and manage our database servers, while supporting development teams and business operations.
Key Accountability & Responsibilities
Work with teams across the Technology department to install, configure, maintain, and upgrade our database servers across development, testing, and production environments.
Monitor database health and perform routine maintenance tasks including index optimisation, table maintenance, and schema modifications.
Work with Development and Data engineering teams to optimise performance & cost of data pipelines
Manage database capacity planning and storage allocation to ensure adequate resources for current and future needs.
Proactive management of databases, ensuring application and operational performance needs are met.
Implement and maintain high availability solutions including replication, clustering, and failover configurations.
Document database architectures, configurations, procedures and policies.
Implement appropriate security controls to ensure databases and data are protected.
Ensure database backup, validation and disaster recovery capabilities are in place and rehearsed.
Provide insight and recommendation on the adoption and consolidation of database related technologies.
Be part of the on 24x7 on call rota to provide out of hours support for our critical systems.
Knowledge & Skills
Proven expertise managing PostgreSQL and MariaDB/MySQL databases
Experience with NoSQL databases.
Experience with cloud database services (AWS).
Deep understanding of relational database concepts, normalisation, and SQL optimisation.
Proficiency in SQL and query optimisation across multiple database platforms.
Experience with database replication, clustering, and high availability configurations.
Familiarity with backup and recovery tools specific to each database platform.
Understanding of database security principles and access control mechanisms.
Experience with monitoring tools and performance analysis techniques.
Knowledge of version control systems (Git) for managing database code and scripts.

Senior Software Engineer (Backend) Series A eCommerce x Fintech Meaningful equity Buying clothes online still isn t a great experience. Sizing is inconsistent, returns are costly, and customers are often left guessing. Yet despite all the innovation in eCommerce, this problem remains largely unsolved. We re working with a high-growth, well-funded Series A startup that s changing that enabling *Try Before You Buy* experiences for leading fashion retailers. The product is live, gaining traction, and now entering a critical phase of growth, including expansion into the US. To support that, they re rebuilding and scaling key parts of their platform. This is where you come in. You ll join a small, experienced engineering team and work directly with the CTO on the systems that sit at the heart of the product. This isn t about maintaining legacy code or picking up tickets. It s about building, improving, and scaling a platform that directly impacts customer experience and revenue. The environment is backend-leaning, built around Node.js, TypeScript and MongoDB, with an API-first, event-driven approach. But more important than the stack is the mindset engineers here are trusted to take ownership, think in systems, and deliver end-to-end. You ll be given the space to focus, the autonomy to make decisions, and the responsibility to get things into production quickly and properly. What they re looking for is someone who has seen scale or at least understands what it takes to get there.
