Data Products Engineer - Contract
Circle Group
Manchester

£250,000 - £500,000
RECENTLY POSTED

Data Products Engineer - Contract - 6 months +

Data Engineer / Data Analyst / Analytics / SQL / Python

Not every data role is about dashboards or ad-hoc analysis.

This one is for someone who enjoys getting close to the data itself taking messy, real-world raw data and turning it into clean, reliable datasets that other teams and clients can actually trust and use.

It’s a hands-on role sitting at the intersection of data modelling, quality and product thinking, with plenty of ownership and room to influence how data products are designed and evolved.

What you’ll be working on

You’ll be part of a Data Products team responsible for shaping behavioural data into well defined, client ready datasets.

Day to day, you will:

  • Design and evolve data schemas and fields, turning product requirements into clear, well modelled datasets
  • Build and maintain data feeds using SQL, Python and internal (AI-assisted) tooling
  • Apply business logic, validation rules and quality checks across large datasets
  • Investigate data issues and improve reliability, consistency and trust in the outputs
  • Work closely with Product, Data Engineering, Apps and ML teams to deliver new features and improvements
  • Keep documentation clear, current and genuinely useful

This is a role for someone who cares about how data is structured, named and validated, not just whether a query runs.

Who this role suits

This role is a good fit if you:

  • Enjoy working hands on with data rather than sitting at arm’s length from it
  • Like figuring out how real-world digital behaviour should be represented cleanly
  • Care about data quality, edge cases and consistency
  • Are comfortable collaborating with engineers, product managers and non technical stakeholders
  • Are open to using AI tools to speed up understanding and reduce repetitive work

You’ll likely bring:

  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with large datasets
  • Experience with at least one data-friendly language (such as Python)
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Nice to have (but not essential):

  • Experience with event-level or behavioural data (web, apps, ads, etc.)
  • Awareness of privacy and governance considerations
  • Familiarity with AWS-based data stacks (S3, Spark/EMR, Athena, Airflow, notebooks)

How you’ll work

  • Hybrid role, Manchester-based
  • 2 days per week in the office, the rest flexible
  • Flexible start and finish times

I'm working with a world-class, product-led technology company in Edinburgh to help them find a Data Engineer to join their growing team (hybrid working, typically 1-2 days in the office). This is an opportunity to join a business operating at serious scale, building data systems that power products used by millions of customers. You'll be joining a high-performing data engineering team where data is central to how the organisation makes decisions. The team is responsible for building and maintaining both batch and streaming pipelines that support analytics, machine learning and key business reporting. It's a fully hands-on role in a modern, cloud-first environment, working on scalable, production-grade data solutions. As a Data Engineer, you'll design, develop and maintain reliable data pipelines and infrastructure, with a strong focus on data quality, performance and clean engineering standards. You'll collaborate closely with analysts, data scientists and fellow engineers to deliver high-quality, consumable datasets while contributing to best practices across the wider platform. You'll be working heavily with Python, SQL and Spark, using tools such as Databricks, Airflow, dbt and Kafka within AWS. Founding Engineer (EnergyTech / AI)

London Hybrid (3 days onsite) 70k- 120k + Equity

A venture-backed EnergyTech start-up is building a new type of power company designed for the electrified future.

As renewable energy adoption accelerates, the challenge is no longer just generating power, but storing, managing, and intelligently dispatching it. This team is developing software that sits at the centre of that transition, enabling a new generation of energy suppliers built around flexibility, storage, and intelligent automation.

Backed by leading investors and founded by operators with experience from some of the most respected names in the European energy ecosystem, the business has already launched its first product and is growing rapidly month-on-month. The next phase is building the core technology platform that will power a fully integrated energy supplier launching later this year.

This is an opportunity to join a small, highly capable engineering team building core infrastructure for a next-generation energy platform.

The Role

You will work across the full product stack, helping design and build the systems that power both the customer experience and the operational backbone of the platform.

Engineers here take ownership of problems end-to-end, from shaping early ideas through to delivering production features used by customers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Building full-stack product features across web, backend services and data systems
  • Designing APIs and integrating with hardware and energy data platforms
  • Developing AI-enabled capabilities, including LLM-powered workflows and operational tooling
  • Contributing to core supplier infrastructure such as billing systems, operational tooling, and internal platforms
  • Working closely with founders and customers to shape the product direction

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React, React Native, TypeScript
  • Backend: Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL
  • Infrastructure: GCP, Terraform, Airflow
  • AI: LLM integrations and AI-driven automation

What They’re Looking For

  • Experience as a Full-Stack Engineer building production systems
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to work across backend and frontend systems
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving start-up environment where priorities evolve quickly
  • A proactive mindset with a bias towards ownership and solutions
  • Interest in the energy transition or climate technology is a strong plus

Engineers who thrive here tend to enjoy working close to the problem, communicating clearly across technical and non-technical teams, and taking initiative rather than waiting for direction.

Package

  • 70k- 120k salary depending on experience
  • Meaningful equity
  • Private health insurance
  • Meal allowance and team dinners
  • Hybrid working (London office 3 days per week)
