Within I&A, the data science team is responsible for building and maintaining machine learning models; as well as working with data and platform engineers to put them into production. At Dunelm we have a focus on providing a more personalised experience for our customers. The data science team is there to help realise that aim. You’ll create, maintain and help put into production models that help us understand customer behaviours. You’ll also get the chance to work with other teams across Insight & Analytics to support the use of advanced analytics in other projects, as well as championing data science across the wider business.
What you’ll be doing
Design, develop, and implement machine learning models and algorithms to solve business problems, making data-informed recommendations and decisions.Lead and manage data science projects from inception to completion, ensuring we meet project goals and deadlines.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to align data science initiatives with Dunelm’s wider goals; and to put models into production.
Contribute to the vision for data science and analytics, recommending ways to improve the quality of our outputs.
Champion best practices such as version control, unit testing, code review, and well documented applications.
Provide guidance, mentorship, and knowledge sharing to junior team members, fostering professional growth and development
Effectively communicate technical findings and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders, translating complex concepts into actionable insights.
This role does not currently involve line management responsibility but there may be future opportunity to do so should you wish to What we’ll look for in you
Essential Skills
Deep working knowledge of different data science and machine learning techniques
Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Project management skills with the ability to drive projects to successful completion.
Experience of interacting with stakeholders at different levels
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
Desirable Skills
Experience putting machine learning models into production
Experience with cloud platforms ideally Snowflake, Aws.
Knowledge of data privacy regulations eg: GDPR
PH.D in relevant field
