Role Overview
As an AWS DevOps Engineer, you will act as the vital bridge between development, testing, and operations. You will be responsible for streamlining the delivery of high-quality software to National Security and Defense customers. Youll work within an agile, multi-disciplined team to automate infrastructure, manage cloud environments, and ensure the security and scalability of mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation & CI/CD: Design, build, and maintain robust automation solutions for building, testing, and deploying applications and infrastructure using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Architect and manage scalable, secure AWS environments utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
- Containerization: Deploy and orchestrate workloads using Docker and Kubernetes (EKS) to ensure high availability and performance.
- Monitoring & Optimization: Implement comprehensive logging and monitoring solutions (e.g., CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana) to troubleshoot complex issues across networking, databases, and code.
- Security Integration: Ensure “Security by Design” by integrating security best practices into the DevOps lifecycle and hardening cloud environments.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Software Engineers and Architects to optimize the delivery lifecycle and share DevOps expertise across the wider organization.
Required Skills & Experience
- AWS Expertise: Proven experience with core AWS services (VPC, EC2, S3, IAM, RDS) and cloud management.
- Scripting & Programming: Proficiency in at least one language (e.g., Python, Bash, or Go) to automate operational tasks.
- Configuration Management: Experience with tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
- Version Control: Strong knowledge of Git and branching strategies.
- Problem Solving: A natural ability to diagnose and resolve root-cause issues in complex, multi-domain environments.
- Security Clearance: Due to the nature of the work, you must be eligible for (or hold) UK Government Security Clearance (SC/DV).
