The Role
As a PLC Software Engineer, you will be the backbone of complex automation projects, reporting directly to Project Managers to deliver high-quality HMI and PLC solutions. You will work independently on software design while collaborating with a wider team on large-scale installations.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Develop: Create HMI screens and PLC code from the ground up.
- Troubleshoot: Support existing software by implementing corrective actions and resolving technical issues.
- Commissioning: Support customer equipment startups, including domestic and international travel.
- Customer Liaison: Communicate directly with clients to ensure their specific technical needs are implemented.
What Were Looking For
We need a seasoned engineer who understands the fast-paced nature of industrial networks and robotics.
Requirements:
- Experience: A minimum of 4 years working with Siemens TIA Portal or Rockwell ControlLogix.
- Industry Knowledge: At least 4 years within the Automotive and Robotics sectors.
- Technical Savvy: Proficiency in Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), ControlNet, and EtherNet.
- Standards: A firm understanding of IEC software standards and the ability to read schematic diagrams.
- Advantageous: Experience with Eplan P8.
Working Conditions
- Location: You must be located within a 1-hour commute of Bedford.
- Travel: Approximately 70% Bedford-based with 30% UK and international travel for startups.
- Flexibility: Some weekend and away-from-home work required.
