Surface Technology Specialist (Materials Engineer) - Filton, UK (60% onsite) Contract | £40.00 per hour Umbrella / £29.89 per hour PAYE An exciting contract opportunity has arisen for a Surface Technology Specialist (Materials Engineer) to join our client’s engineering function, working within Materials, Processes and Test. This Surface Technology Specialist role sits at the heart of aircraft materials innovation, supporting corrosion protection, surface treatments and coatings across multiple aircraft programmes. Job Overview As a Surface Technology Specialist (Materials Engineer), you’ll play a key role in developing, qualifying and supporting advanced surface technologies that improve aircraft durability, sustainability and performance. You’ll collaborate with a highly skilled international team and contribute across the full product lifecycle, from development through to in‑service support. Your key responsibilities will include: Developing and deploying materials, processes and test technologies for mature design and build
Providing corrosion protection and sealing concepts to support aircraft design, manufacture and operation
Supporting improvement projects focused on performance, cost and lead-time reduction
Conducting corrosion analysis and contributing to the development of latest protection principles
Ensuring compliance with regulations through eco‑efficient materials and processes
Adapting corrosion protection and sealing solutions to chromate‑free environments
Supporting surface technologies including paints, coatings, sealants and surface treatmentsRequirements Essential: Strong experience in corrosion protection and surface technology within aerospace or transferable industries
Knowledge of metallic and composite aerospace materials
Experience with surface treatments, coatings, sealants and material testing (e.g. salt spray and corrosion testing)
Ability to work independently while collaborating within multi‑site, international teams
Negotiation‑level English communication skillsDesirable: Degree or equivalent experience in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or similar
Background in aerospace manufacturing processes
Experience supporting design, build and in‑service aircraft programmesRole Details Location: Filton (60% onsite)
Contract duration: until 31/01/2027
Working pattern: 35 hours per week
