An established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their growing Wigan office. This is a design-focused role, ideal for someone with 5-7 years’ UK consultancy experience looking to take ownership of technically challenging projects and progress towards principal level.
The Role
You will play a key role in delivering geotechnical design solutions across a range of infrastructure and development projects, working from concept through to detailed design.
Key responsibilities:
- Undertake geotechnical design including foundations, retaining walls, slopes, and earthworks
- Interpret ground investigation data and develop ground models
- Produce and review design calculations in line with Eurocodes and UK standards
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and design documentation
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
- Support and mentor junior engineers
- Contribute to project planning and delivery
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Geology
- 5-7 years’ experience in a geotechnical design role (consultancy preferred)
- Strong understanding of UK standards and Eurocodes
- Experience with design software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or similar
- Proven experience in foundation design, retaining structures, and slope stability
- Strong communication and report writing skills
Desirable
- Working towards Chartership (ICE, GeolSoc or similar)
- Experience on infrastructure or large-scale development projects
