Job Purpose / Overview

Join us as a Technical Lead Engineer, contributing to complex construction topics at HPC and you’ll be helping us to make sure we continue to deliver technical excellence for the project.

The successful applicant will be a key member of the wider Technical Branch of the Joint Design Office [JDO], operating as part a team responsible for resolving critical, cross discipline design issues and engaging multidisciplinary specialists. The role offers exposure to a broad spectrum of technical topics across the project, driving resolution of technical issues, strengthen engineering delivery and enhance resilience of the JDO by proactively mitigating key project engineering risks.

Principal Accountabilities

As a Technical Lead Engineer you will:

  • Be an organised, proactive and motivated individual able to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Provide oversight and approve Nuclear Safety Category 3 changes.
  • Lead joint Task Forces for Nuclear Safety Category 2 changes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve high-quality technical outcomes and uphold safety-critical standards.
  • Actively contribute in meetings, fostering constructive, delivery-focused discussions and supporting timely technical decision making.
  • Support the identification and implementation of standardised technical solutions for recurring construction, installation and commissioning challenges.
  • Work both within and outside of area of expertise, gaining support identified from the wider project where required.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

You will have good communication and presentation skills, being able to liaise with a variety of stakeholders across the wider business at various management levels from mid management up to director level.

You will need to:

  • Understand an individual level of knowledge and where to receive guidance
  • Be proactive in identifying where you can add value in the resolution of complex engineering problems across your specialty
  • Demonstrate and apply technically sound engineering judgements
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team while also acting autonomously when required
  • Be pragmatic and practical in your approach to developing solutions
  • Be able to demonstrate an ability to resolve issues of high complexity/risk in own technical discipline/area autonomously and contribute to the substantiation of the safety case where required
  • Be a competent user of Microsoft software
  • Have the ability to interpret complex technical information, assess its impact on plant performance, and communicate this clearly to stakeholders

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • IWE/EWE status
  • Understanding of industry relevant specifications, such as RCC-M, to the field of welding
  • Practical experience of applying such specifications to complex multi interfacing projects
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering
  • Demonstrable evidence of problem solving and stakeholder management
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Experience of onsite engineering

Desirable

  • MSc in Welding Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience working in the Nuclear Industry
  • Working in engineering design and welding specification
  • EPR building, plant and system knowledge
  • Safety Case Knowledge and previous experience of Nuclear Safety Categorisations
  • Knowledge of Technical French Language can be an advantage
