Role Summary
The Enterprise Data Architect position has been created to support strategic initiatives in defence data infrastructure. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing and implementing enterprise-wide data architectures, ensuring interoperability, governance, and the adoption of emerging technologies such as AI and automation. This role offers an engaging chance to have a lasting impact across critical defence systems and data landscapes.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and shape enterprise-wide data strategies within complex Defence environments
  • Design practical, scalable data architectures translating strategic aims into deliverables
  • Create comprehensive, end-to-end data models and integration approaches for system interoperability
  • Establish and promote robust data governance frameworks covering quality, lineage, metadata, and master data management (MDM)
  • Support the adoption of new data capabilities, including AI and automation solutions
  • Develop reusable patterns and best practices to uplift data capability across various teams
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to align operational needs with technical design and architecture strategies

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience delivering as a Data Architect within Defence, Security, or Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) environments
  • Demonstrable background working across enterprise and solution architecture levels
  • Strong knowledge of data modelling, APIs, pipelines, and event-driven architecture patterns
  • Experience with relational, NoSQL, or cloud-native data platforms
  • Familiarity with establishing data governance frameworks such as data quality, lineage, metadata, or MDM
  • Understanding of Defence data and integration principles, such as JSP 453
  • Awareness of enterprise architecture frameworks like TOGAF or similar methodologies
  • Familiarity with data security and governance standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST)
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and modern data tools
  • Experience working within full programme lifecycles, such as CADMID
  • Understanding of emerging data trends, including AI, automation, and advanced analytics
